No Good news for AMD Users and ATI 9800-9700

"New ATI Video Drivers Available FS2004 users have had problems with certain video cards but some users with Intel based computers and ATI RADEON 9800, 9800 Pro and 9700 series cards now have a solution. New ATI Catalyst 3.7 driver is now available, as reported by Cap Mason. Learn the details here. Sorry, this fix does not help owners of AMD based systems." "Patience has its rewards. ATI finally released their new Catalyst 3.7 driver for the RADEON series video cards. The new driver has many improvements and completely fixes the video problems encountered when using RADEON video cards with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight." http://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kds?$=main/howto/ati20042.htmThis totally upsets me as I have and AMD Sytem with the AthlonXP 2800 Barton Processor...I guess we suffer..How does this make you feel?Troy

"The new driver has many improvements and completely fixes the video problems encountered when using RADEON video cards with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight." ...oh no it doesn't! I have an Intel based system and an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro and still see the repeated screen blanking in full screen mode on pressing the ALT keys and during menu selection. Also the text corruption persists in the learning centre. However, all remains well in maximized windowed mode. I guess when they test they don't run full screen...sigh!What planet are these people on when they make such sweeping statements? It's about as daft as the advice given on the same site to workaround the problem by maximizing all your settings!MikeMy System Spec:Gigabyte GA-8IRXP MoBo (FSB 400Mhz)Intel Pentium 4 2.4GHz1GB Crucial PC2100 DDR RamSaphire ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB (Catalyst 3.7 drivers)Hyundai ImageQuest Q17 17" Monitor (1280x1024x32)SB Audigy Player (Drivers version 5.12.01.0253 Signed)Deskstar 120GXP UDMA100 HDs x 2 (60 and 40 Gig)CH Products USB Yoke, Pedals and FighterstickPlantronics Headset and Mike comboPlexWriter 40/12/40APioneer DVD-106SWindows XP Home Edition (SP1)DirectX 9.0b

That's the 1st time I heard of one who feels the new drivers addressed the FS2004 issues, even ATI mentions in the driver readme that FS2004 still has issues. It's also the 1st time I've heard of one who sets FS2004's display Mip mapping slider at 8. Anything 5 and over results in flicker. If anyone else shares his experience let us know!Personally, I find FS2004 excellent with ATI 3.5 drivers and a 9700 Pro. Have great framerates 95% of the time. It's not the video card slowing things down.I prefer to run in windowed mode on 2 screens, the screen blanking is not an issue. I'm just overwhelmed how great this sim can look.

I follow a few of the discussions in the outer forum over there and there seems to be a few things that Mr Mason has been off the mark on, just take with a grain of salt, a fix will be found eventually!I am about to upgrade myself, and while I prefer to use the Radeon cards, this problem will probably have me going with the Nvidia, although I am running a Radeon 7200 right now with 3.2 cat drivers and it is working fine, anyone using older drivers with a newer card with good results?Regards, Michaelhttp://mysite.verizon.net/res052cd/mybannercva1.jpgCalVirAir International VAwww.calvirair.comCougar Mountain Helicopters & Aviationwww.cgrmtnhelos.com

I can't understand how a good simulator site, like flightsim, publishes misunderstood articles about ATI cards/drivers.ATI says in 3.7 readme that still there is an issue with FS2004 and catalyst 3.7, if ATI says there is a problem, how someone can say that everything is fixed and link to Intel or AMD systems ?I have 9800pro and still there are the problems, the settings published to fix it are ridiculous.Ulisses
