No right rudder in any FS2004 default aircraft. Why?

Featured Replies

Hi:When standing behind all of the FS2004 aircraft and moving the joystick there is no rudder movement to the right at all. None. Why would this be?Microsoft Sidewinder 1.0 joystick.Pentium 4 - 2.8Ghz1024MB SDRAM128MB ATI Radeon 9800G PRO160GB HarddriveWindows XP HomeThanks,DonS

First, do you have auto-coordination selected? If so, select the aircraft menu, realism settings, deselect auto-coordination and then try your test again. If auto-coordination is already off, exit the flightsim, and enter control panel, gaming devices, test, and calibrate your joystick, especially the rudder-twist grip area. Make sure your joystick is coming reasonably back to center in all axes. If it fails to recenter or stays to one size, you may have a joystick problem. Retry the flightsim and see if the problem is corrected. If you cannot adequately center the joystick with the internal calibration, then download FSUIPC, pay and register, and use FSUIPC's external joystick calibration.W. Hi W. Sieffert, thanks for the reply.I don't have rudder pedals. I have the Microsoft Sidewinder v.1 joystick. (As an aside, using Auto-coordination in FS 2002 resulted in rudder swinging in both directions when moving joystick side to side.)I have auto coordination selected. The rudder only moves when you using NumPad Key 0 (zero), and keyboard "Enter".When I deselect auto-coordination, rudder still only moves when using NumPad Key 0 and keyboard Enter. (in other words, no change.)My joystick does not have "rudder-twist" It performs the calibration with ease and correctness but for some reason it does not take the calibration over into flight sim usage.I have FSUIPC 3.06 (I bought and paid for it) but I guess I'm too stupid to figure out the joystick part of it. I do know one thing though, when attempting to figure out the joystick part of it though, FSUIPC went bazookies and locked up. I had to to the CTRL/ALT/DELETE (Task Manager) to get out of of it and out of FS 2004.I guess I have a glitch in the system somewhere.Maybe I need a new joystick, although this one is less than 3 months old. Any suggestions or recommendations for a new joystick. I would get the yoke but it is physically impossible to set it up on my work station.Regards,DonaldS

Hi Donald - Are you positive it's Sidewinder Version 1.0? Version 1.0 is several years old and in not really compatible with either XP or FS2004.If that's the case, you might want to get a new joystick or a yoke. I prefer the Sidewinder FF II but lots of people like the CH yoke.Vic

Hi Vic:Yes, it is Sidewinder Version 1.0 (see attached picture.) It says on the box that it is compatible with Windows XP - Sorry that type on the box is so small, stating that the joystick is compatible with XP, but I didn't post a larger picture so as not to waste the bandwidth.I think I'm going to get a new joystick anyway. All I see ahead is grief, using this one. Regards,DonaldShttp://www.onlinephotographers.com/pp321/d...64joystick2.jpg

When you taxi do you have directional control ?When you fly is the turn coordinator ball centered all the time ?I'm wondering if auto rudder is activated dependant on the turn coordinator ball position ?The use of rudder on the ground standing still would not cause the rudder to move if it is activated by the turn coordinator.Just some thoughts :)

FS seems to realize that it needs to move the rudder on ground for ground control, and moves it visually even if auto-coordintion is turned on. Once in the air, the rudder movement stops (if auto-coordinated). Both 2002 and 2004 seem to behave the same way here.Art

>When you taxi do you have directional control ?Yes, generally. When turning to the left it turns smoothly, when turning to the right it is a chore.>When you fly is the turn coordinator ball centered all the>time ?Yes it is centered all the time - and this made me wonder too. [grin]>>I'm wondering if auto rudder is activated dependant on the>turn coordinator ball position ?>>The use of rudder on the ground standing still would not cause>the rudder to move if it is activated by the turn>coordinator.I took a short hop in the Cessna and see what happens to the ball/bank and turn indicator. (see if it moves. The way it is now, I am always making a perfect turn, as the ball is centered.) I disabled auto coordination.Made a series of 'S' turns nice and smooth with the ball mostly centered, although it did, move off the center position every now and then. (Kinda like when I used to fly for real. hahahahahahahahahahaha)I looked at the rudder from behind and noticed that the rudder was NOT turning while I was making the turns. (auto-coordination disabled) But, as I mentioned above, the turns were very nicely executed. So they were ailron turns I suppose but the ball was centered (mostly) so I was not skidding around the turn. When I would hit the NumPad "0" (zero) with auto-coordination disabled --- WOW! the rudder would move to the left and the Cessna would snap into a violent left turn. (brought back to neutral by NumPad 5 key.)When I would hit the keyboard Enter key (which is supposed to produce Right Rudder movement, according to manual) - nothing happened.I made a decent landing with with auto-coordination disabled. Once on the ground and at taxi speed, I of course lost all control of the aircraft. Turns made possible by using the sequential brakes. (F11 and F12)To heck with it. I'm going to get a new joystick.
