September 10, 200322 yr Hi All,I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to fix the "view" locations of control towers within FS2004? Seems that all the major (and minor) airports I fly into have oddly placed control towers. Many if not all the places I've flown into and out of have the tower view at ground level in the forest or in the close by city.Any ideas??Thanks!Mikehttp://www.members.shaw.ca/madamo/boeingsig.jpg
September 11, 200322 yr The only way I have found is to "slew" your a/c over to the control tower and check on the "map" for your a/c latitude, longitude and elevation. Put those same numbers into the tower boxes (check the tower circle). I add about 100 feet to the a/c altitude for the tower. Works fine and what a difference in outside views from tower. Sorta of a pain to do it for every airport.....
September 11, 200322 yr No need to slew or put in numbers though (apart from altitude of tower view). Just go to the regular map and look for a small tower icon should be right nearby the aircraft on the map (little black tower).Click and hold it and then drag it to whereever you want it to be. But make sure "tower" is checked in the little round checkbox in upper left corner. If Aircraft is checked, you will be dragging the plane along :)I wish FSNavigator still had "tower view from here" function i used that all the time to get a nice runway view. Wonder why they took it out for FS9.
September 11, 200322 yr Unfortunately the tower icon is only available for a few airports. The slew option in most cases is the only option. At least that I am aware of.SteveCYYZ
September 11, 200322 yr Hi Guys,Thanks for the input so far!! I'll try the slew option but I can forsee that making a change, saving the flight, make another change, save the flight etc... is going to be a daunting task :-)Ahhhh....for the love of my flight sim, I'll do anything!!Thanks again!!Mike http://www.members.shaw.ca/madamo/boeingsig.jpg
September 11, 200322 yr saving the flight, make another change, save the flight etc... is going to be a daunting task :-)No need to save the flight. Once the correct numbers are entered the tower will be correct from then on.
September 12, 200322 yr AFCAD will allow you to make those changes. The new version to support FS9 by Lee Swordy has an ETA of October.
September 12, 200322 yr Steve,The tower icon *is* there for all towered airports. It's just SO far off in some (most?) cases that you have to zoom out on the Map view until you find the tower. You may have to turn off everything in the MAP (VOR's, NDB's, ILS's, etc) view to see the tower once you zoom out, but the tower *is* there. You just have to hunt for it.This is not to say I like having to DO that, in fact it's a royal pain in the patootie. What I can't figure out is why this happened. The placement data was reasonably accurate in FS2k2.Mark
September 13, 200322 yr Hi MarkThanks for your reply. However on my flight tonight to Honolulu Intl I opened the map, chose tower and removed all the vor's and ndb's etc and checked the whole islands area and no tower icon. So I created a plan departing Honolulu and there's a tower icon. So I'm guessing the problem is when we look for the icon at arrival airports ? It would be nice if there were a work around for this other than moving the departing tower to the destination airport.SteveCYYZ
