September 20, 200322 yr Hi,a few days ago, I baught my self a new HD (120GB 8MB by WD). I installed my WinXP and every dirver needed. Since then the FS2004 crashes in irregular intervalls. Sometimes after 5 min of flight, sometimes after 30 min. The picture freezes and the sound gets stuck (repeats the last sound, real noisy). Every other program works just fine (other games, benchmarks etc.). Mysterious is that on my other HD the same system just works fine.Read some posts about the same problem and people gave some suggestions regards CPU temp, RAM etc. Can't be it, because on the other HD FS2004 just works fine.Does anybody have a clue? Thanks for every reply.Best regardsFrankMy system:XP2100+K7N2 Delta-ILSR (sound in board)1 GB PC266 RAMRadeon 9600 Pro120GB 8MB HDSiatek X36 USBWireless IntelliMouse Explorer *WinXP SP1 (no help without SP)Nforce 2.45 (no help with 2.45)DirectX 9a (no help 9b)Catalyst 3.7 (no help with Omega driver)Saitek SD_WinNT_3_2_0_18MasterIntelliMouspoint 4.1
September 20, 200322 yr Hi Frank.Somewhere in your system, a process is activating during the flight, and that is causing the crash.Almost all freezes and stutters are caused by a background process.Yours could be caused by an antivirus program, or System Restore kicking in, or something that activates the harddrive on an itermittant or timed basis. It could be spyware or adware on your system.I did have a freezing problem with CFS2, after I installed a new motherboard. That was resolved by forcing 4x AGP with my Radeon's SmartGart utility. But that is most probably not your problem.Use Task Manager to see how many processes you are running. I usually have 16, including the Task Manager itself. If you have more than that number, it could be a problem.BlackViper has a website devoted to reducing the number of services running in WindowsXP:http://www.blkviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htmIt will help you to decide how to control what is actually running on your computer.Dick
September 20, 200322 yr Hi,had the some problem, solved it this morning, was a RAM problem, with the help of Microsoft, tested with a DOS program from them. Had 1 gig of RAM, 1 dimm failed the test, removed it, and did a flight that was not possible before. I think FS2004 is a good consumer of ram. Finally after one month of mystery !I can send it to you if you want.Joel GillCYQB
