September 22, 200322 yr I have seen this post here and on other forums. Users describe a situation where they have successfully installed FS2004, insert CD4, run FS2004, the splash screen shows, and then...nothing. Task Manager usually shows "not responding".There could be a variety of reasons for this, but a main one is that they do not have DirectX 9a or 9b installed correctly.Download from Microsoft, and be sure that your internet connection is on during the installation phase. December 17, 200322 yr Well, I do have DiretX 9b loaded and FS2004 is still not responding? It did work a few weeks ago, but until I received the SU2 update from PMDG I have not run it.I tried to uninstall all programs install after that point which FS9 was working and still nothing! Does this mean I need to re-install Windows? If this is the case I might as well take up another hobby because that idea is ridicules! To think that some other program might somehow prevent FS9 from running is completely absurd!I sure hope someone has a better solution. THanks in advance for your help!Scott
December 18, 200322 yr The way some planes add things to Flight Simulator's modules folder they certainly could interfere with the simulator's ability to start up. That and the posibility of overwriting an existing gage makes me a bit leary of planes with an automated install. I can't say any particulatr plane does or doesn't have modules or gages, since there are MANY planes I don't have. Also note that Windows is a complex system of applications, add ons, OS services and device drivers, often bought from different vendors at different times, running at the same time. It's quite common for one of these to interfere with anouther. Determining what is at the root of a problem often requires some detective work. This detective work is sometimes complicated by a new piece of software that utilizes driver or DirectX features that earlier versions, written for earlier versions of DirectX, didn't use.
