Excluding objects from scenery

Featured Replies

Hi;Early on, I copied the tip for excluding objects from scenery. (FS 2004)Apparently I did not interpret the tip correctly as I did what was said to do, but the objects are still there. Heres's the tip that I copied:A simple edit of the scenery.cfg should do the trick....you can put an "exclude" around the object. You simply slew to the NW and SE corners of the object (I always allow a bit of buffer room), note the NW and SE lat/lon, and enter the cooresponding coordinates in the exclude statement....here's an example of one:Exclude=N45 30,W120,N45,W119 30,objectsSo -here's how I ammended my FS 2004 scenery.cfg file;[Area.010]Title=Western North AmericaLocal=SceneryNAMWLayer=10Active=TRUERequired=FALSEExclude=N40 13. 20, W100 36. 42, N40 13. 25, W100 36. 01, objectsExclude=N40 12. 69, W100 35. 74, N40 12. 79, W100 35. 37, objectsExclude=N40 12. 69, W100 35. 40, N40 12. 69, W100 35. 19, objectsExclude=N40 11. 49, W100 35. 45, N40 12. 55, W100 34. 72, objectsI live in McCook, Nebraska and FS 2004 has numerous buildings around the airport and in real life there are none at all.Anyone know what I did wrong?Thanks,DonaldS

Microsoft, in its wisdom, seems to allow only one exclude statement per scenery entry. The others are ignored. I haven't found a workaround, other than turning off Autogen, which seems to be the cause of many of the oddly placed buildings. Another option vs. turning Autogen off would be using my program, Landclass Assistant, to create a grassy buffer around problem airports. Regards,John

Hey John:TY for the reply.A grassy buffer around the McCook International (snicker) airport would be infinitely better than all the buildings that are there now.Where might I get Landclass Assistant? Thanks,DonaldS

Also, did I have the placement of the exclude objects line in the right place in the scenery.cfg file? Thanks,DonaldS

Landclass Assistant is available in the file library. You install the base package, then the 1.3 update. I do have an unreleased 1.4 release candidate that uses FSConnect to help you "draw" the landclass updates (version 1.3 used FSUIPC). My main purpose for release 1.4 was to improve accuracy of LCA. If you send an email to the address in my docs with the subject "Landclass Assistant 1.4", I can let you try it out. With it, you should be able to clear landclass around the airport....As to your second question, the excludes were placed right--just too many of them, I guess. Pity there's no means of chaining excludes so you can pick and choose which airport objects you want to remove.-John

Donald,I have had luck doing multiple excludes through *.bgl files created in fssc. I have excluded individual or multiple buildings around and in Newark Liberty International.:-jumpyHope this helps.Steve

John:Upon your recommendation, I downloaded your "Landclass Assistant 1.3" from the AVSIM library.I noted in the Readme file; "Requirements: FS2002 with FSUIPC 2.8 or better. Also requires previous installation of Landclass Assistant."I have FSUPIC 3.7 but where exactly to do I go to get a previous version (I guess that's what you mean) of Landclass Assistant? Thanks,DonaldS

I guess you're going to have to help me on this -- what is "fssc"?Thanks,DonaldS

As I said above, drop me an email and I'll send you version 1.4...The newest version (1.4) uses FSConnect (which can be downloaded from the library here). FSConnect can be dropped in the modules folder alongside FSUIPC.I'm afraid I can't email it to you today--I am out of town and will be through tonight. Also, the newest version corrects an accuracy issue in the placement of landclass--you'll need it if you're going to place landclass accurately around the airports. Also, as I noted above, you cannot install Landclass Assistant 1.3 until you install the original version (the base pack). It's here in the library as well:http://library.avsim.net/sendfile.php?DLID=15721Once the base pack is installed, you just unzip version 1.3 into the program folder and you'll do the same when you receive version 1.4.I don't know if you've ever installed landclass before, but assuming you get a good bgl, I recommend placing it in it's own folder. It's installed like any other add-on scenery, except you don't place any texture subfolder in the scenery folder. If you email me offline with questions, I'll be happy to respond--just remember to place Landclass Assistant in the subject line so my spam filters don't nuke the email.-JohnEdit: Since FSUIPC has gone payware, I don't know whether version 1.3 will work with it anymore. It may, if you've registered FSUIPC. But I discontinued support of FSUIPC in favor of promoting the freeware FSConnect.

John, may I also drop you an email? I can't wait for the final releas! :(RegardsWolfgang, Innsbruck,Austria (LOWI)

You sure may....Since you're familiar with LCA, the key thing with the new release--I've changed to a 257x257 .raw file format. Richard Ludowise's research convinced me this was an important upgrade if I wanted LCA users to accurately place landclass.Because of the change in format, I also have two utilities in the package. They convert 256x256 .raw files to the 257x257 format, and they allow you to shift landclass to realign it.What's delayed release is documentation. I wanted to rework it, but now I don't think I'll have the time. I have to travel to Latin America next month, then to California shortly after I return.... Then the holidays will be here. So I may just release it in the same manner I released the first three updates.-John
