Radeon 9200 OR FX 5200 - Which one to buy?

Featured Replies

Hi There,Sorry to bring up the video card debate again. I have the money to buy one of these today as they are both in my price range. After reading all the past threads in this and other forums I'm stumped as to which one to buy?I was leaning towards the FX5200 but a recent review I just read has left me second guessing. If anyone can offer their opinion and advice I'd be most greatful.Thank you in advance,Boone

Hey John,Thanks for the quick response. I hope to buy it at lunch! Unfortunately the selection (and the price) up here in Dublin, Ireland isn't the greatest. It's one or the other and considering I'm upgrading from a GF 2 32MB I'm quite happy not to go for the mid to top end card. I'll price the 9600 first though.Best Regards,BooneRainy Dublin

Just for the record (and any future search)...I bought the FX 5200 and am more than happy with it on my mid range PC.It did require a good bit of tweaking to get things the way I want them.Boone

Like John said,I highly recommend you save up for a 9600 Pro.If you're lucky...you might even be able to find a 9500 Pro which should be no more expensive than the 9600 Pro, yet an even better performer.Regards

BooneIf you buy the 9600pro, please let me know how you get on because i just upgraded to one on friday and am having real problems with it - it's actually giving me 5fps LESS than the Geforce 3 ti200 that it replaced !!! I'm sure this must be down to my system but i can't for the life of me find out what's going on...RegardsGary
