RealAir Sf260

Featured Replies

Hi all.Has anyone heard when the fs9 patch for this beauty is likely to be released? This was my favourite aircraft for fs2002 and I can`t wait for it to be updated. The 172 rework would be nice too..CheersLungs

as far as I know from realair' site ( http://www.realairsimulations.com ), it's comming "soon"

I received an email yesterday from Rob Young, one of the two very talented designers of the Real Air SF260. He says the new FS2004 model "patch" will be available within the next few weeks so keep an eye on their website (as I am!).Out of interest - has anyone used the SF260 with rudder pedals (CH Pro) in FS2004? I have attempted to practice crosswind landings at my local airfield (Biggin Hill)in FS and find it more difficult to perform smoothly than in real life! The approach goes fine but "kicking" the aircraft back onto a straight line has caused a number of crashes! As in real-life I use the crab approach technique with the SF260 being a low-wing monoplane and then correct for drift during the flare by judicious use of into-wind rudder. In FS this doesn't appear to work very well!?Advice/comments please:)RegardsAdamPS: I have FSUIPC registered version in which it is apparently possible to "force" FS to drop wind to 1kt constant at runway height (because FS cannot recreate the after-landing attitude correctly...has anyone used FSUIPC to do the above and does it work? I can't notice much difference..)

Hi ThereThats good to hear from Rob that its almost ready to go.I use the SF260 in Fs9 with the Ch Pro pedals. Its very hard to kick straight (so is the L70 for me), though I am having the same issues with xwind landings in the real world too.I haven`t tried the FSUIPC tweak you refer to. I`ll give it a go and report back.Cheers LungsPS I notice you`ve got the Vulcan too. I have just upgraded Gary Summons Uk 2000 scenery part 2 to fs9 standard and Filton airfield compliments the Vulcan very nicely - I recommend it..

I have the SF.260 running in FS9 but can't wait for the proper FS9 version...Rob Young has got to be the best out there for GA airfiles imo. I've been enjoying his work ever since the Fly! days...also waiting for the 172 update as well:-)I wish some of the 'heavy metal' airfiles out there had that sort of quality...CheersDave

The SF260 flies OK as it is in FS9 but you don't have the clickable options in the VC, of course. I don't know about reflective textures or other eye candy features as they don't interest me.David

G`day VectorYou`re right it works pretty well in FS9 but the stall behaviour and the elevator effectiveness have definitely changed (IMHO). It was spot on in FS2k2 and its just not quite the same at the moment.Like you I`m not too bothered about reflections & stuff, I`m after a vc with a good viewpoint and handling.Cheers Lungs

Hi LungsThe problem I have with it (and the RealAir 172) is that as soon as I apply into wind rudder the wing comes up toooooooo fast and its nigh on impossible to catch it before it smashes into the runway. This doesn't (obviously) happen in the real world..its all alot more progressive. The FSUIPC mod is in the WINDS section. There's a tick box (says something like "restrict surface wind to 1kt") let me know if you notice the difference. For Your Info try a visual approach to Biggin Hill (Kent UK) Runway 21 with the wind 270 @ 24 kts (yes extreme I know).regardsAdamPS: I love the Vulcan. The sound file is fantastic! I always remember watching them with awe at airshows in the late 1970's when I was just a little aircraft spotter;-). Will try it at Filton tonight. Great to fly. Bugger to land!

HI thereI`ll try the Biggin Scenario you describe tomorrow (its late in NZ Now!) and see how I go. You right about the wing coming up quickly when you kick it round - I feel certain I`ll break it at 24 kts @ 60 degrees to the runway. I`ll try it with & without the FSUIPC tweak too.The sound file is truly blinding on the Vulcan though its not quite as good in fs9 - the trumpeting noise which was available in fs2002 doesn`t work on the Vulcan in fs9. Do you know a way round that?CheersLungs

Hi AdamI tried the Biggin rw 21 winds 270/24 this afternoon. I found that it is not too bad in the sf260. I could land ok in that situation. Yes the wing comes up but it is easy enough to prevent scraping a wing if I am quick enough on the ailerons.. I`m still finding landing the sf260 in FS9 very different to fs2002 though. It seems to need more power on the approach and a higher touchdown speed. The FSUIPC (v3.08 registered) limit surface winds to 1 knot didn`t make any difference at all - wind was still 270/24 with the tweak applied. Maybe that feature doesn`t work properly?CheersLungs
