My Traffic... your thoughts

Featured Replies

Several months ago (when I purchased FS9) I vowed to wait until the end of august for the Unlimited Traffic addon. This got extended out to the end of September, only because I think I would enjoy the program. Well, it is the end of September already with little or no indication as to when it will be released (only that it is ongoing)... I have given up on that product.I am planning on purchasing My Traffic (possibly today) and would like to know some thoughts from some of the users here. I remeber reading things about the air files (specifically on landing) and that they may need to be modified. What are your thoughts and experiences on the overall use, GA traffic, install, aircraft ect? Also, where can I find a list of Airliners that it provides?

Hello,I am a happy MyTraffic user. Not sure your question is about exactly concerning the "modified airfiles", as there is no modification needed that I'm aware of. Just don't try to use the planes to fly with. The airfiles are simple because they are made for AI traffic purposes only. I suggest reading reviews about the products. There are such reviews at www.simflight.com and www.flightsim.comThere are some differences between the two, as you may already be aware. Both are worthy of purchase. Ultimate traffic is based on Real World schedules, MyTraffic is not. The good part of that is that MyTraffic has more traffic around the clock. Ultimate traffic has better looking(higher detail paints) aircraft. MyTraffic serves more airports than Ultimate traffic. MyTraffic has GA and some Military traffic, Ultimate traffic does not. Ultimate Traffic has a nice online updater that allows you to to add aircraft and flight plans. Ect, ect. Read about more of the differences in the reviews. I prefer MyTraffic due to the higher amount of traffic around the clock, and the inclusion of GA and military flights, not to mention it serves more airports(5,500 vs. 4,000).Not sure about finding an exact list of Airliners MyTraffic provides, but according to the review on www.simflight.com it comes with 62 models and a total of 1080 liveries.Hope that helps,Jim

thanks...I thought there were issues with the AI traffic doing funky things while landing (slaming down, bouncing ect)? I do not intend to fly them, was just wondering.Does this program replace the defaults (Soar, Landmark ect) or just add to MSFS? I find it stange if I still heard the ATC calling out these default airlines. If I purchase and reformat my drive (which I am doing in a few months) do you suspect there would be any problem with reinstalling? I mean is this an exe file that I can backup? are key files used?

Hi Again Mike,Nope, no issues(slamming/bouncing) with the way the airplanes land or anything, at least not on my system. And to let you know, I am using a free upgrade for MyTraffic 2002 to MyTraffic 2004 since I owned MyTraffic 2002. I am aware of .key files and phoning home required by the Flight1 software wrapper. I would imagine they use that for Ultimate Traffic. But for MyTraffic 2004, it should be a file you can download, and backup, with no key file needed to run the setup, unless something has changed in the 'full'(as in non-upgrade) MyTaffic 2004 version that you would be getting/downloading as a new purchaser.Cheers,Jim

Hi Mike,if you're using a lot of add-on airports, you should check out the MyTraffic forums. I remember, there were a few issues with changing parking spaces at add-on airports in FS2002. Check, if it's going to be compatible with Afcad 2004, when it comes out. Otherwise, you may have to live with aircraft taxiing through buildings and across grass at your add-on airports. As far as I know, it does replace the default airlines. In the meantime, have you considered installing the PAI packages from www.projectai.com (freeware)? These will give you quite a lot of real-world traffic. This way you'll have some realistic traffic, while you wait for UT for FS2004. Once it's out, you can check the comments and reviews and then make up your mind, which one to buy.Cheers,Gosta.http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg

Oh, I forgot in my last reply.Soar and company get replaced by installing MyTraffic 2004.

Hey why spend any money PAI has tons of downloads and they are working very well in my install of FS9!Tony

I reckon you're better off downloading the PAI stuff whilst Ultimate Traffic (UT) is upgraded for FS2004.I recall that when all 3 (or more) payware AI Traffic packages, MyTraffic, FSTraffic & UT etc. were available, UT was regarded as the pick of the crop.UT for will prob be worth the wait for sure.Cheers :)Josh

Personally Mike, I did all of it on my own. Well I use a flightplan called MRAI. (found here at AVSIM) Which is a master file for most of the airlines in the world's 2003 summer schedule. I use ONLY AIA aardvark ai due to the friendliness on the FPS. It takes a bit of time, but the outcome is more to my liking then PAI or any of the addons. Mainly because of the framerate issues and also the sense of accomplishment of creating it all yourself. There is a GA only flightplan also that adds 1,000's of GA flights. (also found at avsim) So I have 20 airlines done so far, (15 models and 120 liveries) and 1,000's of GA flights using 10 models and 35 repaints. Have not gotten into the Military stuff yet, because I don't see the point without the new afcad. None (atleast near me) have parking spots, so no AI.Once you get the hang of it, you can add 2-3 airlines an hour. Toughest one for me was Frontier, due to all of the Repaints they have. But I have 20 different Frontier liveries, and they all look wonderful!! www.ai-aardvark.com is the homepage for the AI...Great info on Poly counts, and why its so FPS friendly. All of the AI can be found here at avsim. Do a search with "aardvark" and see what happens :) Then narrow it down with your favorite airline to see what they have to offer.

For the life of me, I could not find specific files to get started with Project AI. Would somebody be good enough to list the files I need to get started and where to find them specicically.Thanks.Abe
