Hi guys, please bear with me, this is my first post here so please go easy...I'm at a complete loss as to what the problem is. In a nutshell even after three re installs I am unable to load FS9 past the 'getting started screen'. I've been using the sim since the beginning and had a few issues which I've always been able to deal with myself but this one has me beat.. Once the sim is right clicked (even in admin mode) the normal FS2004 splash screen comes up...then the screen goes blank followed by the initial light blue screen (getting started' but this is blank! and what appears to be a much lower resolution (ie the words are much larger).The menu is still there down the left side but as soon as I click on any of these the screen goes blank again and the sim CTD's with the usual 'sim has encountered a problem and will terminate' script. I've defragged the drive ©, tried installing onto an seperate drive and un installed all add ons! One strange thing I notice is that in the apps data file the only file there is the aircraft one, no scenery, or CFG!!.I'm on Vista 64, fully updated, latest drivers, (280 GTX), FS 9.1 on a basic install. I'm guessing it could be a registry issue or something else outside of the sim but I can't find out what!!...before this sudden problem everything worked beautifully, The problem started when I tried to use the 'killmessage' file, which led to there being a language.dll problem, I had foolishly deleted the original dll and from there things have gone from bad to worse, I've even considered a complete re install of Vista though loathe to as I have so much data on it and I'm worried that exactly the same thing will happen again making it a futile exercise!!,Thanks for any advice or suggestions in advance..Andy

My god, I never heard of something like that before... Right, I won't be of much help i guess, but the only thing I can ask is: was the installation done in admin mode? So, did the installer have admin privileges? If not, try to reinstall FS9 with admin priviliges. You probably also tried this, since you said you installed into a seperate disc, but try to install in C:/Flight SImulator 9. Just that, so not into Programs Files. That's the only thing I can suggest, though. I hope it helps you in some way.

Thanks Gus, sorry should have mentioned that I've already tried that...in fact it was the first thing I did. I'm unable to take a screen shot but just imagine the light blue main screen with no dialogue, a menu down left side and all in high resolution.When I click on any menu item the screen goes black and CTD's with the usual program 'not responding' script. If I click on the usual 'X' it asks me if I wish to exit FS as normal and then does so....if I click on the minimize icon (-) then I get the splashscreen in large resolution and am unable to do anything, except hit the windows start button to try and close it....very strange!Andy

Have you tried turning off Aero and UAC during install??

Thanks Bill, yep..never used them both Aero and UAC were disabled early on.......just can't work it out:o...FSX works just fine but FS9 just doesn't want to know. It must be something outside of the program itself .In the Data apps roaming file (USER) I now have aircraft, Facilities, Scenery Cache, FS.9 CFG (not a text file though) and Navlog0.Whilst uninstalling FS9 I used Revo uninstall pro to ensure that all remaining 'leftovers' were gone but it makes no difference!!

These are the images that I get on screen after firing up FS9.....all the menu's down the left side are active but upon pressing any of them the screen crashes back to desktop!!!Upon pressing the '-' this fills the whole screen,Then if I press ctrl+al+ delete for the task manager this happens.....in low res Then the ''simulator has stopped working etc'' ,script comes up...Any ideas?Andy
