October 26, 201015 yr Multiple Monitors & Multiple PCs running FSX in Harmony IF you have the room and the spare parts you can get the ride of your life with this style setup, but get ready for a headache of questions and endless possiblities. I’m here to help and ask questions of my own, hoping for thoughts or solutions too. So here we go, first a quick summary of my old setup, then my new upgrades filled with my questions to you, and finally my hardware and software list. Please ask me about anything I will try to help! Hopefully, I will get pointed in the right direction and help others at the same time. OLD SETUP Computer A (will be identified as PC1 from now on) ran my three 22” monitors as a client (using Wideview and WideTraffic) of FSX in Vitrual Cockpit view and Computer B (will be identified as PC2 from now on) ran my two 15” monitors as the server viewing only 2D panels and running all 3rd party addons. Resulted in FPS running in low 20s away from density, and 10-15 FPS in high density. Everything worked very well together, but those are some suffering numbers. SOFTWARE USED: Windows XP, FSX Acceleration(2 copies), FSUIPC, WideView, WideTraffic, VoxATC with added TTS voices, Project AI, Aerosoft UScities Chicago X. NEW SETUP PC3 (you guessed it Computer C) my new laptop is going to take over as the server considering it only needs to run 2D panels and can sit in front and below the wide span view of the three 22”s, it should handle the load. Currently since PC3 came with Windows 7 and I heard it runs great, I upgraded all PCs to Windows 7. I am now following all steps to properly setup FSX via Nicks instructions. PC1 is running the left and middle monitors and PC2 is running the right 22” and an extra 15” for GPS panel.Already, much better results, assuming due to 2 PCs concentrating on graphics only.I am currently setting up PC3 with every addon that I want testing after adding each and taking notes on my steps because I have to duplicate it on the other 2 PCs. When done, I will follow continue to follow Nick’s steps to improving Windows 7 and tweaking FSX and will be doing it 3 times. CURRENT BUGS OR ISSUESFPS on PC3 (set to unlimited) amaze me (high 30s running MyTraffic and VoxATC with 45% traffic at KORD). VoxATC running smooth but I miss having multiple voices to interact with. Anyone know of Text to Speech Voices that will work for Windows 7? I haven’t tried my AT&T voices yet, but read Windows 7 doesn’t like them.Anyone using VoxATC with MyTraffic X? Load flight plan, vox traffic slider at 40%. Departure Airport full of Traffic interacting with Vox, but once airborn near by airports only have 1 to 2 aircraft. Any ideas?? October 26, 201015 yr Thanks for starting this thread. I have been considering networking to improve my framerates using multiple monitors but have very little experience. Most of the cockpit building sites have a little network info but most of their discussions are hardware oriented. Hope this thread will attract some interest and discussion and in the future possibly warrant a dedicated discussion group in the forums.Ed PancakeXP(32), E8600, 9600GT, 3 mixed vintage monitors, PMDG747, future IFLY737
October 27, 201015 yr Glad to hear CEd! I can help you with your questions (I hope) with networking multiple PCs in FSX, I haven't had any problems with the software options out there. If your at the point of evaluating your options I can help with how I based my decision.Where I'm at right now!I had a working 3 PC setup running 5 monitors in XP and was OKAY with the result. Now that I upgraded the one laptop and all of my OS. I had the chance to correct mistakes and decided I needed more patience setting this one up! I plan on milking all my hardware for what it is worth!!!!Thanks for the interest, I know I'm not doing this alone, but I need a place to go to see how others beat their obstacles or to state how I over came mine!
October 27, 201015 yr Here was my XP setup. The three 22"s are the staying the same in my new setup. For now, my laptop will be 2D panels and below & in front of the three monitors. One of my 15"s will be used for GPS off to the upper right of my far right 22".
October 29, 201015 yr That would suck a load of power. Use that often and they'll be sending your next power bill in a box.
October 29, 201015 yr That would suck a load of power. Use that often and they'll be sending your next power bill in a box.It does, but I don't leave them on all day. At least they are LCDs and not CRTs. I compromised the power consumption by changing allof my bulbs in my house to CFLs!! :)
November 1, 201015 yr Haha. Can't get something for nothing eh?Yup, laws of physics, you can't get something from nothing unfortunately :Phbbbt:<_<:Hmmmph:
November 4, 201015 yr I would be keen to add another monitor to my current single 24-inch LCD. In fact I already have a second IDENTICAL 24-inch monitor connected to a second standalone PC in my study. How easy would it be to have just the two monitors to give either a wider view like in the screenshot above or have 2D panels showing on the second one? I do have a registered FSUIPC. Do I have to purchase extra hardware? Is there a step by step guide I can download? I believe my existing GTX 295 graphics card would cope, or will I see a big drop in FPS?Thanks in advance. November 4, 201015 yr I'm interested too. I want to set up 2-3 monitors...And tucker1003 does that sort of view work with 2D panel? Like you can see 45 degrees or so to the left and right instead of just straight forward like in 2D panel. For example, will i be able to put 2D panel on centre screen and make the left screen show 45 degress to the left and the right screen 45 degrees to the right for the view or will they all just show straight forward view...?
