Should I have video card determine AA or application.

Featured Replies

Ok I need some input. Normally in my graphics card setup I would have check marked to let the application do AA and antistropic filtering but when I run FS2004 this way and enable AA in the sim there are tons of jaggies. It doesn't even look like AA is turned on. However if I then set my card to do the AA the sim looks great. Anyone else have this problem? If I remember correctly in FS2002 it handled the AA ok.

Depends on your video card...When I ran FS2004 with my GeF/2, I had to force AA in order to see it.With the 4200/TI, I can set it through FS2004's menu. Some will tell you to always force AA. That may be true at higher resolutions. But at either 800x600 or 1024x768, if I use FS2004's AA checkbox, I see little fps penalty. Maybe my system's too slow for it to surface, since it's a P3/800....-John

I can't give you much input as I am not very savvy on the card set-up but your post prompted me to ask if you are configuring the physical card or are you checking boxes in the settings window? You mention antistropic filtering. Where do you set this up? I have a 64MB, DDR, Nvidia geForce Plus AGP, run Windows ME on a P3 800. I had the jaggies the other day and someone told me to check AA in the settings window and it got rid of most of them. Good luck.

I have the ATI Redeon 9600 pro. The anitropic filtering is a setting in windows. It's usually in the direct3d tab of your video cards settings. Now as far as the AA goes. Even if I force the AA and use only 2x it is way better than what I get my having FS AA checked. I guess I should take some screen images to demonstrate.

Hi,For better performance, let your video card take care of the AA. In Flight Sim, un-check the AA box and add the following "bolded" lines to your FS9.cfg file (if you haven't already):
