November 5, 201015 yr And can you edit the number of processors to 4 in msconfig? or better unckeck the "Number of processors" checkboxI think there's nothing wrong with your CPU. It's windows that is not able or configured to boot on four cores, probably after changing the cpu it's stuck in the I5 2 core setting. What's your OS please? Msconfig says number of processors in the drop down list is (2). But however I see 4 Processors in Device Manager. I installed the CPU on my existing Windows 7 installation, that the i5 650 was on.

November 5, 201015 yr Ok, I'm not sure it's windows thenCan you edit the number of processors in msconfig then? It should be 8 not 4 if you have Hyperthreading enabled, sorry. How many options are there in the dropdown list?Is the checkbox unchecked?
November 5, 201015 yr Author When the box is checked there are (1) and (2) available, unchecked goes to (2). November 5, 201015 yr Well, then I'm not sure it's what a said before :sad:You can try checking the number of processors checkbox, then select 2, reboot and check if you have all 8 processors available to select them in msconfig.Another thing I would try (and that is probably not going to help at all) is disable HT and see what happensThe way to make sure if it's windows related would be to use a live CD with another OS (I have an ubuntu) and see if it can see all the cores. If a second OS can't see the cores, the CPU is most likely damaged

November 5, 201015 yr great! now I'm pretty sure you should be able to activate HT again and have all 4 cores / 8 threadsif the number of processor checkbox was ticked, no wonder it was booting on 1 core / 2 threads Oh can't believe it!
