November 4, 201015 yr Hey guys, how's it going. I recently upgraded my system from (Specs Below) to an Intel 875K Quad Processor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...6-368-_-Productand a Corsair H50 liquid cooler for the CPU. But now my question is, I googled CPU-Z pictures of the 875K in the "CPU" Tab and in the bottom right it shows "4 Cores / 8 Threads" and now I have the exact same processor and my CPU-Z shows this:Is this right? I hit Load Setup Defaults in the BIOS and cross checked everything so, did I miss something? Thanks guys. Here's what the one on Google looked like. November 4, 201015 yr Some sort of a power saving options may be reducing the available number of cores/threads in low load conditions. Either that, or Thermal Protection. Or you just disabled all buy one core in BIOS.
November 4, 201015 yr And when you cross-checked everything in the bios, you verified that ALL processors are active? This would be in the cell menu with American Megatrends bios. Art
November 4, 201015 yr And when you cross-checked everything in the bios, you verified that ALL processors are active? This would be in the cell menu with American Megatrends bios.Indeed. I remember having that option too and if it is not set to all, only one core will be active. November 4, 201015 yr Author Yes Under CPU Configuration in the BIOS, which is fully updated from ASUS, under the advanced tab for the CPU it says Activate All Cores and gives me an option to select (1) or (2) and thats it. November 4, 201015 yr This is very weird. No to me known power saving option reduces the usage of cores. If everything is set up correctly - CPU is being recognized as it should, and BIOS is up to date and set to use all cores, then you can only check when startup sequence comes up, CPU type is displayed, I believe also it shoud say Quad Core or something like that.If that displays correctly, Windows reinstall, to count that out. I guess you are using full updated Windows 7, although that shouldn't be a problem. If all fails, gotta turn your CPU in. Something is wrong with it.
November 4, 201015 yr Yes Under CPU Configuration in the BIOS, which is fully updated from ASUS, under the advanced tab for the CPU it says Activate All Cores and gives me an option to select (1) or (2) and thats it.Confirm your BIOS version is it above 0808. Did you set your default BIOS settings before installing the new CPU, that can cause problems.
November 4, 201015 yr Author My BIOS version is 1301, and I cleared my CMOS as well, still in the same boat. November 4, 201015 yr My BIOS version is 1301, and I cleared my CMOS as well, still in the same boat.Take it out the processor, put it back in, recheck the situation, if your in the same boat send it back! I wish I could come up with better idea's but I have never seen this before. Good luck.PS Didn't newegg have a problem with selling fake processors in the past! Makes you wonderhttp://www.hardocp.com/article/2010/03/05/newegg_selling_fake_intel_cpus
November 5, 201015 yr Author Well I bought the CPU at Microcenter, already explained to them the situation and the manager said he would exchange the CPU no worries, once they are back in stock on Tuesday. That's bittersweet news because, I'm glad they'll take it back, but now I will sit here waiting till Tuesday wondering if thats whats up. I agree as well I nor have any of my freinds seen or heard this happening before, Also I removed the HSF, and removed and re-seated the CPU, Disabled Hyper-Threading and now CPU-Z shows (2 Cores) (2 Threads) vs whatever it said in the first pic. November 5, 201015 yr Have you checked your MSCONFIG to make sure windows is not booting on 1 core?START -> Run... -> msconfig -> Boot -> Advanced Options -> Number of processorsA long shot, I know, but won't hurt to rule that out tooHow many cores can you see in the device manager? Also, what's your windows version and did you reinstall after swapping CPUs or used a previously installed OS?
November 5, 201015 yr Author Msconfig says number of processors in the drop down list is (2). But however I see 4 Processors in Device Manager. I installed the CPU on my existing Windows 7 installation, that the i5 650 was on.
