Helicopter cockpits FAR AWAY?

Featured Replies

Everytime I load a helicopter in FSX, my VC is 100 feet away from me. I have to use my arrow keys to go to it! What's going on and what has caused this? It doesn't happen to any airplane...just helicopters. I don't know what caused it. Could it be EZCA or some other addon program. Nothing has changed with my configs in the rotorcraft. It happens to the Bell, the Robinson, and all others. Has this ever happened to you, and how can it possibly be fixed?Stan

My guess is that it is EZCA if you have that running, and you could solve it with EZCA by repositioning the views in that. I have EZCA and I know it can be a bit of a pain in the &@($* on occasion in that regard, even if it is a worthwhile thing to have for the ground roll and turbulence effects it produces. However, I must admit that I use Track-IR with choppers rather than EZCA, as I find it is pretty much a necessity to get the best out of a chopper in any sim; as with the real thing, unless you have a guy on the door acting as a banksman, you have to keep looking around for positional reference points in order to fly them properly, and it's a godsend for that.So without wishing to sound like an advert for the product, if you like flying choppers in FSX and don't have Track-IR, then I would strongly suggest you consider getting it, as it does make things massively more convincing from the VC and choppers become much more controllable as a result. It's great for other stuff too of course, and supported by very many games and sims, thus it does tend to pay for itself in terms of what it gives you back in enjoyment really rather quickly. What is more, I personally find that it helps to reinforce a good habit for real world flying - that of keeping a good lookout - which is pretty much a matter of life and death when you fly gliders or spend a lot of time in a circuit.Al

I have to concur with Alan: I also turn off EZCA when flying chopper. Yes - the TrackIR is a must, it fits every fixed-wing aircraft and is faultless, and so I just use EZCA for fixed-wing flying. I have the Nemeth Huey, their very nice MD-902, plus the magnificent Dodo Ranger, and found that - given my ridiculously limited ability to understand how to set up EZCA properly - it is just far too often a very big pain in the butt, and has to be fiddled with for almost each flight.

On the subject of Nemeth, you should get Nemeth's MD 500 Defender - that's a little cracker of an add-on helicopter. And it is cheap too :-)Choppertastic - Nemeth Defender with the Nemeth Huey H and the Area 51 Huey Y on the deck:2010-11-5_1-14-26-546.jpgAl
