RAFCAD Question

Featured Replies

I downloaded a RAFCAD for Shezryar Ansari's Cleveland (KCLE) scenery and I am seeing Cessnas parking at gates. I made General Aviation spots, but they are still parking at gates. I thought RAFCAD was to stop plane from parking in the wrong spots. How do I get them to park in the General Aviation spots I made?

I'm also seeing some regular airlines park in the cargo areas

The radius settings have to be set for each aircraft individually, use AITM freeware program. If you've already done that then the default learjet and C182RG are not GMAX and don't have adjustable radius settings. The settings for those planes will be larger than the normal 5 or 6 meters respectively. They will park in airline spots if airline spots are available. The only way I can think to get around this is use an overlay for general aviation. Whole nother story.Nomally cargo parking has larger radius than terminal parking, so if you have a shortage of terminal parking then the airline will go to a cargo spot if one is available.RAFCAD is designed to organize planes by airline etc, but there are limitations like I've described.

Could it be because at the moment I don't have any Continental Express, US Airways Express or American Eagle AI packages and those cessnas I'm seeing at gates are gates for RJ's? And once I gate those RJ planes for AI maybe the cessnas will park in the normal spots?

If the cessnas in question are C182RG's then they will not park in general aviation parking if you are setting your general aviation spots for 5 and 6 meters like the RAFCAD chart specifies. I think the radius on the 182RG is between 10-15 and can't be adjusted. When you load some RJ plans possibly the cessnas will disappear, but also it's likely the cessnas will cause the RJ's not to load.

The planes that Im seeing park at gates are the Cessna 172, 182, and the Grand Caravan. I adjusted the radius to between 10 and 15 for the 182's. What are the radius's for the Grand Caravan and the 172? Maybe the guy who made the RAFCAD put the wrong numbers. Im going to try and change the parking for the general aviation planes from "parking" to "ramp" maybe that will work.

This is the general aviation part of the chart I have for setting up RAFCAD. The matrix chart is what you use to set all the radius for aircraft. I think it's available at the Projevt AI site. RAFCAD import files for gate sizing should go along with the chart also. On the right side the first number is the aircraft radius and the number in parentheses is for the AFCAD gate size for that aircraft.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/43758.jpg

It sounds like you need to set your airplanes to the proper radiuses. The rafcad technique requires you to have matching radiuses of planes with their intended gates to work. There is a download document title FS2002 Universal Aircraft/Gate Radius Settings that should be followed in order to set up your library to take advantage of rafcadding. Be aware that rafcadding has a high entry fee in that you have to devote time to convert your entire library of ai aircraft. You can find more info about it at over at Project Ai. FYI, your small Ga planes should be mdl sized to 5m setting.

Ok I got all the Cessna 172's and 182's away from the gates and into the general aviation parking, but I'm still having trouble with the Cessna Grand Caravan. I put 19.69 feet (6 meters) with a large GA parking space (I also tried the GA medium space) and I tried 16.40 feet (5 meters) also but it is still parking at the gates (I also tried 9 meters or 29.53 feet). Can you help me out with the number to use for the Grand Caravan? Maybe I got the meters to feet number wrong?

Make sure the spots in the AFCAD file are set according to the chart I showed you. I think the preset gate sizes don't always match up. Try right-clicking on the spot, clicking properties, and manually entering 5.00m for the radius of the general aviation spots. The type in the bottom line doesn't matter as long as you manually enter a radius size. Are you changing the radius of the aircraft model files through AITM? This must be done for all this to work. I made all my general aviation planes 5 and 6 meters. If the radius of the caravan is set to 5 or 6 meters and the general avaition spots are 6 meters and there are plenty of them, the caravans should be parking there.Last thing, do the caravans have places available in general aviation parking? Are they overflowing to terminal parking because general aviation is full?

I was changing the parking spot radius's just by using AFCAD. I got the 172's and 182's away from the gates. Since I only have 3 RAFCAD files (everything thing else I have is AFCAD) I didn't think I needed that AITM, guess I got to download AITM.

"I didn't think I needed that AITM, guess I got to download AITM."Right..When you go through your aircraft list with AITM (read the instructions) you are using the chart and adjusting the embedded radius for each type of plane (piston/airliner/cargo) as well as each airline (textures). Most of them will end up with a smaller radius than the original file so at airports not setup with RAFCAD you may occasionally see planes parking wrong, but this will always be the case for non-RAFCAD airports anyways.I only have a few downloaded RAFCAD files myself but as I have played with different airports and wanted to see different things happen I basically created my own RAFCAD designs to have the planes parking in the right spots. Often the only time-consuming factor is figuring out which airlines are servicing the airport to decide how many gates to designate for each. After that you can just highlight one airline group of gates at a time and change the radius properties of the whole group at once.

Ok I found out what was wrong, the radius for the Grand Caravan and the Regional Jets were the same. But it's all fixed bow :) Thanks for the help guys!
