Replace exisiting AI Aircraft and AI Flight Plans

Featured Replies

I need assistance in how to replace current AI Aircraft and AI Flight Plans with updated ones. I would like the simplest/least confusing way to do this as I have tried it before and got lost. Result was double flights of the same exact flight. I tried decompiling the old AI Flight plan but they are still intact. Not sure why. Many Thanks.BrgdsMike

Are you talking about the default Traffic files? And for which version of FS - FS2004 or FSX?We need more details from you before trying to assist.BTW - Decompiling a traffic file does not remove the original - it just breaks it down into the three basic elements (txt files). You might also find this Tutorial by Mike Stanton helpful as it explains the basics of any Traffic file:http://library.avsim.net/search.php?SearchTerm=mike+stanton&CatID=fs2004&Go=Search.

There is only one default traffic file in FS2004 and it is named traffic030528.bgl - so I am confused when you say "those" traffic files. It would also help to know what Operating System you are using - XP, Vista or Win 7.If either of the latter, and you are not seeing the three txt files after decompiling, you may have a "permissions" issue which needs to be resolved. The three txt files should be visible in your Traffic Tools folder (aircraft, airports and flightplans)A great many of us have abandoned the default FS2004 Traffic altogether in favor of the real world airline packages avaiable from World of AI. Perhaps you should check out that approach. http://www.world-of-ai.com/

Oh ok. I am using Windows Vista. What I meant by the traffic files was downloaded one not the default. I have some AI pacakges installed but not sure how to relace them. Like in the screenshot, I am trying to replace the cathay pacific AI traffic file but not sure how.Should I also delete the traffic030528.bgl file? If so, will fs on my system still run normal?

Do not delete the default Traffic file - simply disable it by changing the name to traffic030526.bgl.original. That way it can be easily restored if you wish.Disabling it will remove all of the default Traffic - Landmark, Soar etc. that many of us do not care for.You screenshot (which is very hard to read because it is so small) indicates you have been able to decompile the Cathay Pacific traffic file. You should now be able to open the Flightplans txt file (using Notepad) and replace what is in there with your new plans. The AC#'s must reference the AC#'s in the aircraft txt file however. Read the HELP file for information regarding the AC numbers.Note also that all of the airports mentioned in your new flightplans must exist in your airports text file.Once that is done, then you simply use the Compile option to compile the edited txt file(s) back into the Traffic file.Hope that helps.

Note that decompiling a BGL file will NOT remove it - it only creates the 3 text file in addition to the original BGL file.If you want the BGL file to be deactivated, do it by renaming it the same was as described above for the default traffic BGL file. But if you are going to to recompile the text files into a BGL file with the same name then that is not necessary - TTools will overwrite the original BGL file when you recompile the text files.Hope this helps,
