October 20, 200322 yr Hi,I've just purchased the FSD Seneca V. It flies very well. I'm learning to fly a non-virtual Seneca II and I find them quite similar. However I would like to add a DME readout to the panel. What is the simplest way to do this?As a separate question, can someone explain what these two variables affect visually:TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS and TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUSThanks for your help,

Where it's then just a matter of dragging gauge where you want it on the panel and resizing as preferred. There is a freeware version called CfgEdit, but you will run into some limitations for FS2002/FS2004.www.cfgedit.comRegards.Ernie.
October 20, 200322 yr "As a separate question, can someone explain what these two variables affect visually:TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS and TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS"For an explanation of these and the other Terrain settings in the FS9.cfg see Chris Willis' post #5 in the "READ ME FIRST" sticky at the top of this forum.Cheers,
October 20, 200322 yr Hi,Thanks for your response. How about a less easy, read free, way of adding a DME gauge? Can someone point me at a beginner's guide to simple panel editing? Thanks,
October 20, 200322 yr Hi Greg,Thanks. I've read his post and I don't understand his definitions. "This is the default radius in textures for all rings" - What are the different rings? How can the radius be set the same for all of these rings? Do they overlap?"This is the radius used for the inner ring when the extended texture ring is turned on" - What is the extended texture ring? What is the inner ring?Sorry for such novice questions? Where can this type of information be discovered? Thanks,
October 20, 200322 yr Michael,Hope this makes sense.First make a copy of the panel.cfg files before you edit, just in case. 1. Make sure the gauge you are adding is installed to the main gauges folder of FS2. Open the panel.cfg with notepad, of the panel that has the gauge then scroll down till you find it; example from the default Cessna 172: gauge06=Cessna!DME,544,493. Highlight the entire line, right click & choose copy.3. The 2 numbers separated by commas tell FS where to place the gauge on the panel. This is what the numbers mean; The first (544) is the location of the gauge on the panel horizontally, the second (493) is for vertical. You most likely will need to add two more numbers. The next number will tell FS how big to make the gauge horizontally, the next, how big to make it vertical.4. The chances that the numbers used on the original panel will work on another plane are very slim so you will need to change them for each panel you want this installed. There MUST be a comma between each number 6. Now open the panel.cfg with notepad of the plane to install and scroll to the bottom of the list of gauges in (Window00), right click and choose paste. You can choose to just type it, but there is a greater chance for error. All must be just right or it will not work.
October 20, 200322 yr You can take a shot of the panel in 1024x768. Paste it in a paint program that can read pixels coordinates and get the values for 544,493,90,30.Jos
October 20, 200322 yr Hi Ken,Thanks for the excellent response. I have one more question. If the new gauge partially overlaps an existing gauge, how can I control which one will be displayed in front. Thanks,
October 21, 200322 yr The gauge that has the largest number will be on top unless it gets updated info and then it may move to the top depending on the type of gauge. It is best not to have any overlap.Ken
October 21, 200322 yr Hi Ken,I made the following test change to my C172SP panel.cfg file:gauge00=Cessna!ADF,545,86gauge01=Cessna172!Airspeed,145,56gauge02=Cessna!Altimeter,347,57gauge03=Cessna!Attitude,246,56gauge04=Cessna!Avionics Switch,240,286gauge06=Cessna!DME,544,49..gauge45=bendix_king.dme, 520, 40, 100It seems to make no difference whether I place the bendix_king.dme as gauge 45 or as gauge 02, the Cessna!DME is drawn in front. Is there any other place where this priority might be set.I would like to be able to add a small gauge in front of some large PFD or MFD displays. Thanks for your help,
October 21, 200322 yr I also tried to add the same bendix_king.dme to my FSD Seneca V panel. This time even in an unused section of the main panel, the only part of the dme which showed up was the LED readout: no border, no switches. What could cause that? Can the panel have a priority that is higher than certain parts of a gauge? What could cause a gauge to show up fine in one panel and only partially in another panel? Thanks for your help,
October 22, 200322 yr Michael,Send me the panel.cfg you are trying to place the dme onto. I have the Secena so I can see what is going [email protected]
