Can't find Fs9.cfg!!

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,I dearly want to try out Geofa's changes but I can't find Fs9.cfg!I have done about 4 searches of both My Computer as well as my C: drive.I searched for Fs9 as well as Fs9.cfg.I enabled the show hidden files and folders for the search and I have also tried searching manually but no Fs9.cfg!I' went to C:/ Documents and settings/ Username ( here I found: All users, Default user and User 1)/ Application Data/ Microsoft - and then I find lots of anything except Fs9! I search all three of the above mentioned users. Now I have a few questions for anyone that's able to help me:1. Is Fs9 a folder/file that comes standard with all versions of MSFS ie. FS98/2000 or is it only related to a certain version?2. Is it completely MSFS related or does it exist by default on a computer?3. If not, how and where do I find it?Please help me!!I use:Windows XP Home EditionPentium 3 705MHzGeForce 4 MX440MSFS2002 Professional EditionRegardsLodewyk Engels

"C:Documents and SettingsRobApplication DataMicrosoftFS9fs9.CFG"This is where mine is to be found, with a little phantasy you will find yours..:)Little suggestion, make a shortcut from the fs9.cfg and the scenery.cfg and put them into a newly formed folder (e.g. named FSShortcuts) residing in your main FS9 folder ...Rob "Holland&Holland" de Vries http://www.emotipad.com/emoticons/Flying.gif"A Bad Day At The Field Is Still Better Then A Good Day At Work"

FS9.cfg is a hidden file by default so you'll need to set the folder options correctly for it to show. Click on StartSettingsControl PanelFolder Options then click the View tab and check the box on the option called "Show hidden files and folders".Doug

Hi,Rob showed you where you should be able to find the file. And Emile gave a good suggestion too.As to your #1 and #2 questions, the folder where the FS9.cfg file is located does not come by default on a computer. It is created by installing, and then running FS9. I don't believe you will have the folder until you actually run FS9. This way, if there are multiple user accounts on the system, they will have thier own FS9 folder and FS9.cfg file, and each user will then have it run with their they way they set up FS9. In other words, it will run with their own custom settings. At least as far as the FS9.cfg file settings go. Addons such as aircraft, scenery, AI Traffic addons and the like will be global. As far as the custom settings for for each user's FS9.cfg file, it was not like this until FS9(FS2004). Prior versions of MSFS only had the .cfg in the root directory of MSFS. So all users were subject to using the same settings, or changing them from the other people in the households settings back to their settings each time. I realize this may not matter much to you if you are the only user on your system. But say for example you had kids, and each of them want to run the sim with their own specific display detail and realism settings, then it is nice that when they log in to their account with their username then they can always expect those settings to be the way they left them.Hope that helps,Jim
