November 28, 201015 yr HI,I have a problem with the pitch.I takeoff and fly manually until the flaps are retracted.Once i am at a pitch that allows for the desired speed, I turn on the autopilot. I am at around 3000 FPM when I do that. I then watch the plane slowly decreasing its pitch. I use the yoke to correct this, but if I pull gently, the the plane goes up and down again, if I pull harder it will clim like a rocket until it stalls.I understood how the AP works and I do not want to use the Sperry 177 - I set quite a large null zone (as mentionned on this forum) on my joystick, but it still does not work. I even set a super large null zone, but it did not help.Would you have a clue?thanks!Olivier
November 28, 201015 yr Remember that the Sperry 77 controls attitude, not rate of climb. Your rate of climb/descent is a byproduct of power AND pitch adjustments. If you set the aircraft to a specific pitch and roll, it will attempt to maintain that state (in a vacuum). Proper maintenance of your attitude requires continuous (read: not "fixed") throttle management and CWS "fine tuning" (very very gentle bumps to the control yoke in the desired direction) to correct.
November 29, 201015 yr Author Hi,Thanks for your answer - I am aware of the attitude thing (I use DF 727 which is based on the same principle). The problem is that, after takeoff, I am on a steady climb, the planed is trimmed (I can let the joystick go). In theory, if I turn on the autopilot at that moment, it should keep the same attitude, but it does not, the plane goes into a dive.I selected B system for hydraulics, everything seems to be set normally.Would you have any idea of where it could come from ?I love this plane and it is a bit frustrating. Thanks!Olivier

If spurious inputs outside the null zone are made--even momentarily--those inputs will accumulate over time. I recommend you use the logging feature of FSUIPC to watch your axis values as the sim sees them. In the FSUIPC options and settings, go into the logging tab, in the specific value checks section enter 3328 into an offset box, and select type S16 from the type dropdown next to it, and then fly the sim. The axis values will be visible in a green strip across the top of the wndow, and you will be able to see if the joystick is spiking intermittently to a nonzero value when centered, which is almost always the cause of this problem. The solution, if this is your problem, is to either clean the pot (occasionally this works), replace it, or use a different joystick.RegardsBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO Bob Scott | President and CEO, AVSIM Inc ATP Gulfstream II-III-IV-V Sys1 (MSFS20+24/XPlane12+11): AMD 9800X3D, water 2x240mm, MSI MPG X670E Carbon, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, nVidia RTX4090FE Alienware AW3821DW 38" 21:9 GSync, 2x4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2x2TB Samsung 990 SSD, EVGA 1000P2 PSU, 12.9" iPad Pro Thrustmaster TCA Boeing Yoke, TCA Airbus Sidestick, Twin TCA Airbus Throttle quads, PFC Cirrus Pedals, Coolermaster HAF932 case Sys2 (P3Dv5/v4): i9-13900KS, water 2x360mm, ASUS Z790 Hero, 32GB GSkill 7800MHz CAS36, ASUS RTX4090 Samsung 55" JS8500 4K TV@60Hz, 3x 2TB WD SN850X 1x 4TB Crucial P3 M.2 NVME SSD, EVGA 1600T2 PSU Fiber link to Yamaha RX-V467 Home Theater Receiver, Polk/Klipsch 6" bookshelf speakers, Polk 12" subwoofer, 12.9" iPad Pro PFC yoke/throttle quad/pedals with custom Hall sensor retrofit, Thermaltake View 71 case, Stream Deck XL button box Sys3 (DCS/P3Dv4/ATS/ETS): AMD 7800X3D, MSI MPG X870E Carbon, Noctua NH-D15S, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, EVGA RTX3090 Alienware AW3420DW 34" 21:9 GSync, Corsair HX1000i PSU, 4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2TB Samsung 970Evo Plus, TM TCA Officer Pack, Saitek combat pedals, TM Warthog, TM RS300 FF wheel/pedals, Coolermaster HAF XB case
December 4, 201015 yr Author HI,Thanks for your answer - I tried with the joystick unplugged and it did the same thing - strange!Do you think there can be something else?Happy flying,Olivier
December 4, 201015 yr HI,Thanks for your answer - I tried with the joystick unplugged and it did the same thing - strange!Do you think there can be something else?Happy flying,OlivierDo you have any other controllers, such as a gamepad, connected to the PC? If MSFS sees any HID controller it might be connected as a joystick and be interfering with the sim. What did monitoring the FSUIPC offset show...with or without the joystick?RegardsBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO Bob Scott | President and CEO, AVSIM Inc ATP Gulfstream II-III-IV-V Sys1 (MSFS20+24/XPlane12+11): AMD 9800X3D, water 2x240mm, MSI MPG X670E Carbon, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, nVidia RTX4090FE Alienware AW3821DW 38" 21:9 GSync, 2x4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2x2TB Samsung 990 SSD, EVGA 1000P2 PSU, 12.9" iPad Pro Thrustmaster TCA Boeing Yoke, TCA Airbus Sidestick, Twin TCA Airbus Throttle quads, PFC Cirrus Pedals, Coolermaster HAF932 case Sys2 (P3Dv5/v4): i9-13900KS, water 2x360mm, ASUS Z790 Hero, 32GB GSkill 7800MHz CAS36, ASUS RTX4090 Samsung 55" JS8500 4K TV@60Hz, 3x 2TB WD SN850X 1x 4TB Crucial P3 M.2 NVME SSD, EVGA 1600T2 PSU Fiber link to Yamaha RX-V467 Home Theater Receiver, Polk/Klipsch 6" bookshelf speakers, Polk 12" subwoofer, 12.9" iPad Pro PFC yoke/throttle quad/pedals with custom Hall sensor retrofit, Thermaltake View 71 case, Stream Deck XL button box Sys3 (DCS/P3Dv4/ATS/ETS): AMD 7800X3D, MSI MPG X870E Carbon, Noctua NH-D15S, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, EVGA RTX3090 Alienware AW3420DW 34" 21:9 GSync, Corsair HX1000i PSU, 4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2TB Samsung 970Evo Plus, TM TCA Officer Pack, Saitek combat pedals, TM Warthog, TM RS300 FF wheel/pedals, Coolermaster HAF XB case
December 4, 201015 yr Author Hi,Silly me - I ruled out the joystick without trying your suggestion.I did try it and I realized the value was -540 when centered. I calibrated the elevator axis with FSUIPC and it now works. Thanks a million for your great support.Happy flying,Olivier
December 6, 201015 yr Glad that worked.. we are very blessed to have Bob responsible for the Tinmouse. Bob knows all!
