Reinstall issues after hard drive crash

Featured Replies

Greetings all,I've been having problems reinstalling my PMDG planes after my hard drive crashed. I was able to recover most of the files, but can't get them to work on my new system. I have FSX,and am using Vista.MD11: The plane loads, and has the engines running, however all of the displays are blank (black), and none of the buttons or switches move. Also, under the "add-on" menu on top, nothing is listed except for "FSUIPC", so I cannot check on panel states (cold and dark, etc).747-400X: The response is "overhead.dll cannot find PMDG options.dll" This is followed by a fatal error, and FSX then crashes.JS41: I get a box to enter the activation code. The response is "unable to activate communications". This is likely due to the server issue mentioned in another thread, and I'll need to try later and see if I can reinstall this plane.Any suggestions, especially regarding the MD11/747?Of course, if the 737-NGX comes out anytime soon, I don't think I'll need to worry about the other planes. I'll be busy for the next year learning/flying the new one. :( Many thanks

Ron,Submit a support ticket for me and attach your dll.xml file (located in Users\(Your User Name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX) - sounds like it's corrupted. That's gonna be the source of your MD-11 and 747 problems - the J41 issue is as you surmised due to the server issues and should be resolved at some point today.

Sounds like registry entries still point to the old location on the defunct hard drive. Maybe using the same drive letter as before for your new FSX partition helps. Not sure that works, if the new HDD is a different size and brand. Try the Flight 1 registry tool as well.Oh, uh... never mind...

Yeah - Ron make sure you did actually run the installers on the new OS - you didn't just copy stuff over did you? That won't work because none of the registry entries get created and the security/validation stuff isn't set up. If you did run the installers, proceed with sending me the dll.xml file as before...
