December 14, 201015 yr Hi there,I have just added GEX Europe to my software and find that it provides a great improvement ,however , I would find in my humble opinion that the grass textures that it uses in the airport surrounds is not as good as the default and would like to just replace these textures with the default ones which I have as a backup. Now the problem, I do not have a clue as to what the relevent file names or numbers of these files are and it is like looking for a needle in a haystack. The only texture files that I want to replace are the Airport Grass Surround files. I would be very much obliged if someone could help me to identify these files. Many thanks in anticipation.
December 14, 201015 yr I can't help with identiftying the specific texture, but this was a topic which had much discussion over on the Flight1/Simforums/GEX Support forum. You need to make sure you have the latest GEX EU updates, as these pads were improved significantly after the initial release. That said, they are still not the same as the defaults. I believe the problem is that the textures used for airport pads are also used elsewhere (e.g. alpine meadows I think), and replacing the GEX texture with the default can lead to some undesirable effects elswehere.
December 14, 201015 yr Author Many thanks for your prompt reply.I have installed GEX Europe V.1.025 which is the very latest version. Yes you are right these "pads" as you call them seemingly were improved with this version but unfortunatly are still not as good as the default. What I was hoping was that the specific default file or files that provides this surround grass at all airports could be just removed and replaced with the default files that they replaced. I have the default files which were placed in a backup folder when I installed GEX Europe. You mentioned about these files might have been used perhaps in Alpine Meadows or such. As you can appreciate a lot of flying time is connected to airports and I could put up with any slight disimprovment to another area which I may never see.Again many thanks for your interest and help.
December 14, 201015 yr I think the textures you are interested in are:139b2fa1.bmp thru143b2wi5.bmpI also see that GEX EU V2 is due out sometime in the new year, and will include new airport pads for all locations. They won't be the same as the defaults, but you might find them more acceptable. It's quite subjective. I found the GEX EU textures took a while to grow on me, but they are getting better all the time. And the V2 preview pix are looking very good indeed.

They have a replacement for the default grass that is better...at least for me! LOL. May be worth a try before you start mucking around in the default folders. May be worth a try before you start mucking around in the default folders. Not sure if it applies to the REX replacement, but there was a warning on the GEX site that some grass replacement packages also modify/add bumpmaps which are used elsewhere and can cause other GEX textures (snowscapes I think) to look peculiar.
December 14, 201015 yr Author Hi there,My sincere thanks for your replies and I will try to give my results on your suggestions.I tried the REX replacement texture and I am afraid that I could not find any apprecable difference. The textures that were pointed out certainly proved to be the right ones and indeed braught back the default textures to the airport pads. With trying out everything I have not been able to do a tremendous amount of flying but I have tried about a dozen flights and sofar can not see that it has interfered with the performance of the GEX Europe in any way, maybe down the road it might. Now I have to be honest and say that I thaught that the V.1.025 was the new version that was released and did not expect any further upgrades for some time, I am delighted to hear that a further upgrade is due out very soon with new airport pads ,this is great news as they may be very good.In the meantime the default textures that I have put back in will do the trick so thanks DickB for that info.I installed UTX Europe some time ago and now with GEX Europe in I am more than pleased with the fantastic scenery which both have made a massive improvement on.Again my sincere thanks for all your help which is much appreciated.
