AMD Phenom II 1090T + Nvidia GTX 460?

Featured Replies

Hi Folks, Time has come to get a new computer and the one I'm looking at is an HP model with AMD Phenom II X 6 1090T processor and I would install a Nvidia GTX 460. I don't intend to overclock. How well do you think that would run FSX? I fly only in FTX areas (PNW, NRM, Australia) with Ezdok and some (easy on fps) payware aircraft (Carenado C185, T34, C172. A2A Cub etc). No other addons. Thanks Howard

What's the current card, power supply and case size of this HP?

Thanks Chris for your quick reply! 1GB ATI Radeon HD 5450 (could upgrade to HD 5770 or NVIDIA GeForce GT 440 through HP. The GTX 460 I would have to buy myself and install) Power Supply 460 Dimensions: 16.85"(L) x 7.05"(W) x 15.79"(H) other: 8GB DDR3-1333MHz SDRAM [4 DIMMs] Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bitHave a Happy New Years

I think you'd be safer upgrading to 5770 through HP. I'm not sure whether or not the card will fit (don't know dimensions) and if the power supply will have the right connections, as the GTX460 requires a 6-pin connector.

Thanks Chris, I'll check out pin and fit before I buy. If I do go with the 5770 do you think it would do a good job for FSX?

I really can't say, ive never used ATI cards before in my gaming systems, I've always been an nVidia guy for gaming.

I would be hesitant to recommend purchasing an off-the-shelf system for gaming, especially if you ever plan on upgrading. Weak power supplies and small cases are the name of the game when it comes to OEM desktop PCs.
