January 1, 201115 yr I am currently running FSX/GOLD, with a bunch of scenery installed, including FSGenesis. UltimateTerrainX, Ground EnvironmentPro, as well as lots of various payware and freeware sceneries. What I am looking for is a utility that will tell me what sceneries are "under" me for a given spot "on the ground" in FSX. It seems that FSX is able to determine which BGL/Txt file to load for aparticular location, so there should most probably be a vehicle that can tell me the same information. I don't care if it interfaces with FSX running, or runs as a separate routine against FSX Scenery configuration while the simulator is not running.Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, but a bunch of various searches using differing keywords haven't given me the answer. Thanks for any help/suggestions/etc. Al RosenbergSan Antonio, Tx
January 18, 201115 yr Commercial Member Hi,I have not seen such a tool. What FSX does is scan all the active scenery folders that are in your scenery.cfg file. For the different BGL files it finds it will then check if they are in the area you are flying or not. If they are they are loaded and will be rendered. Arno If the world should blow itself up, the last audible voice would be that of an expert saying it can't be done. FSDeveloper.com | Former Microsoft FS MVP | Blog

In the SDK, under Environment kit\Terrain SDK, there is a HTML file called "Terrain and scenery" that will give you some useful information under the "Base file information" section about how the scenery files are named, and what geographic location they represent. Also, you can use TMF viewer to load up the world scenery file. You just move the mouse over a particular location on the map, and in the bottom corner of the window, it will show you the file name. (The instructions on how to use TMF viewer are on the afore mentioned HTML file). If you have any other questions, let me know.
January 19, 201115 yr In FS9 we had lwmviewer2 which among other things builds a scenery database with the lat and long bounds from the file header of each bgl file. Too bad it doesn't work in FSX. scott s..
