January 13, 201115 yr Hi all,I just purchased the J41 form PMDG.Everything seems to work fine, but one thing i cant figure out...When i am flying in LNAV, it works great, but i never see any frequencies changing.(in RMI that is )on page 64 of the aom (taxi checks) it says :1)Unless VHF navigation is required for departure, set NAV 1 and NAV 2 to AUTOTUNE..My question, where exactly can i change the navs to autotune or manual tune. And is it the same autotune as the pmdg747 where it just tunes to the right VORs and even ILS??Thanks in advance (srry for english if wrong) Michael.
January 13, 201115 yr I am not 100% certain, but I think that might be a typo, though I am surprised no one has spotted it before. I do not think the JS41 uses autotune as the FMC uses GPS navigation, so does not need VOR/DME self checking the way an INS based system would.P.S. January 14, 201115 yr Author Wow, thanks for the fast reply man,I understand what your saying, and i know it uses gps so thats a good point that it doesnt need the self checking. But still, you can go to the tune page, set a frequency there and then you see it changing in the RMU. (meant the RMU in the first post as well not the RMI)Another thing is if you add a waypoint in your Flight plan, or go Direct TO and then a VOR station, it gives you all the info on the nav screen like the radial your on and such things, does it get that info from the gps as well (witch ofcourse is possible) ?and eh.,, sorry about the sig and name, im reading this forums for like 4 years now or something, but actually never posted before :( Michael.
January 14, 201115 yr Does it give the radial? Is it not just the heading from one point in space to another. One that, coincidentally, has a VOR on it? Another polite hint, full name please. Forum rules Paul Smith.

So maybe that is real world feature that wasn't included in model just like HOLD and few other.Regarding second question: that data is included in AIRAC which must be always up to date, in other case FMS must not be used for navigation (I think...).
January 14, 201115 yr Wow, is the JS41 a "light" PMDG product? I'm finding it a very complex and well made turboprop sim! If it is "light" I can't imagine how could be an "heavy" PMDG product Keep in mind that I own even the MD-11 and the 747 both for FSX..........Anyway, I'm well aware that a little turboprop can fly very well without the autotune function. The "real" enemy of the J41 is ICE!! You have to spend more time looking at anti-ice systems and at the turbine EGT to not melt the engine. One word: Amazing! January 14, 201115 yr Unfortunately, the ice build up does not affect airplane's performance. That's what I mean by calling it "light", in every other aspect this is wonderful and complex bird :)
January 14, 201115 yr Author Thanks for all the answers !Anyway I was just asking because it was stated in the aom. It does not make the aircraft any less fun to fly !I actually really like it, it's a complex aircraftBut on the other hand you can have it up and going really quick if you want a short quick flight.Another great aircraft from pmdg !!
