CTDs

Featured Replies

I, too, am having problems with the famous CTDs. Have tried most everything, downloads, uploads, drivers, discs, forums, so-called experts, new and the latest computers with 500GBs, trillabytes of memory are all useless. It's all a hunt and peck process to try and find the answer. I think instead of trying to fight it out on these forums, Microsoft, and or these add-on companies should be finding out what their problem is as it would be to their benefit to do so, as I am not going to buy any more add-ons for FSX. Why buy if you can't use them, or you have to move the graphics sliders to the left so far that it gets closer and closer to the DEFAULT area. Maybe this problem with CTDs is why Microsoft is coming out with the latest simulator FLIGHT; maybe they can't fix FSX's problem, and because of lack of sales for add-ons, pressure is being put on Microsoft to come out with something new , so let's come out with a new one. I know I won't buy it until I can see there are no problems with CTDs. Either way, this is a Microsoft problem, being that so many FSXers are having the same identical problem, not a forum problem. Aren't all these add-ons, and that includes ACCELERATION, SUPPOSED to be compatible with MICROSOFT GAMES FSX?This is happening, also, with the latest and most memory computers so it's not a memory problem.

"Aren't all these add-ons, and that includes ACCELERATION, SUPPOSED to be compatible with MICROSOFT GAMES FSX?"Acceleration works well with FSX and is compatible. All freeware and commercially developed addons are not necessarily compatible with FSX OR Acceleration unless the product specifically states it is or a fellow flight simmer has indicated it is compatible. Many of the addons were made for previous versions of MSFS so you should be wary of these products unless you know for sure it works. You can find this out in the developers website or forum and/or right here on AVSIM. Many of the addons will not work very well on certain systems and will require lower FSX settings to function properly. If you have a product that requires you to move the sliders all the way to the left, your system is compatible but not up to speed for that particular addon. I personally see no reason to move all sliders to the right. It doesn't make things look better and, in some cases, even creates more problems as you'll run into lower FPS taking away all the enjoyment of the game. Some scenery will be rendered at higher levels too and create a false impression of the scenery area. I personally set my settings at the default (what they are when you first start up FSX or if you delete the FSX.cfg, restart FSX and let the config rebuild itself). Then I might move a couple of mesh settings a little more to the right than recommended by Microsoft for my particular system. There are lots of suggestions by experts and people like me on how to properly set up FSX and get it tuned to work properly and you just need to try out some of these suggestions and wait patiently for the next version of MSFS.Best regards,Jim

Hi. I'm somewhat in agreement with Sonic5. The CTD's are a Microsoft problem and should be fixed by them. I too am having CTD's, mainly the NTD.DLL error which I've read on these.forums could be caused my just about anything. I'm also having the stutters and on my sytem I think thar's unacceptable as I have a high-end system. I'm probably going to re-install FSX/Acceleration once again and am seriously considering reinstalling Windows 7 or at least do a 'repair' on it. I'tried just about everything suggested on these forums but still having CTD's. I recently ran my FSX.CFG file through *******'s web application and that seemed to improve things slightly. My system specs are: Intel i7980X (at 4.13Ghz), Geforce 580X (at 880Mhz), 6GB DDR3 2000Mhz, 2x300GB Velociraptors (1 for Windows etc and 1 purely for FSX), X-Fi titanium sound card, Windows7 64bit, and a Laptop on which I run all FSX related software (weather etc.) connected to my main PC. I did think perhaps it was a SimConnect issue....... I'm not sure.Anyway, one last attempt at reinstalling Windows, and/or FSX. If I'm still having these CTD's then I might very well go back to FS9 until Microsoft either find an answer of release Flight.Martin.

FSX code is frozen, so there will not be any fixes for FSX...Cheers,- jahman.

I think you're 100% right thinking it might be a simconnect issue since you are communicating between your desktop and your laptop to run FSX's weather and some scenery. Sounds like you have too much "tech" trying to do too many geeky things. You may find that running your laptop for weather is just not workable with this version of FSX. I don't think reinstalling FSX or Windows will resolve your problem(s). When you have "buggy" software like FSX that may be creating memory leaks, etc., nothing can resolve the problem except maybe lowering sliders which you shouldn't have to do with your system. FWIW, I have no problems running FSX with my system with awesome graphics, etc., until I turn on the weather engine (default or commercial). Then, all kinds of strange things start happening. Not right away but mostly after 30 minutes to an hour after I start the flight. My FPS are way over 30 consistently even with the weather engine on but suddenly I'll have issues with the game and I have to shut it down or let it CTD. There is nothing shown in the Event Viewer that indicates there was a problem so it is difficult to troubleshoot. At least I know what is causing my problem. So I'm resolved to just running FSX with the default weather scenario until I upgrade. Hopefully the new FS will be better optimized to use all the CPU cores and the power of the latest GPUs. Best regards,JIM
