Win7 and XP boxes on a network

Featured Replies

Hi,I am running Win7 for my FSX box and 2 XP machines as clients. I can see the Win7 share on each of my xp machines, but when clicking the share from an xp box it asks me for a login and password. What is interesting is that it makes no difference what I put in for the login and password. Win7 is throwing up this login dialog box but doesnt care what the heck you put in it to connect. I have looked at the win7 share dialog box on the Win7 machine and clicking "properties". I have set users up as "Everybody" and to have read/write capability, and I see nothing that would correspond to logging in. I am thinking that Win7 and XP do not talk exactly the same language. Any help would be much appreciated.RegardsBob

On the Win 7 box I think there is a profile for each network defined, for example home or work. In that profile should be a setting for password protected sharing which can be on/off. Select to "off".In control Panel -- select network and sharing centerNetwork and sharing center -- ensure your home network is activeChoose homegroup and sharing options -- selectChoose Change advanced sharing settings -- selectOn Password protected sharing -- select "turn off"Administrator privileges are required for this changeI'm guessing this might fix your problem.scott s..

Hey Scott, thanks for the reply. Well, it was set to "no password". What I did was set it to "password required", saved it then went back it and set it to "no password". That worked!! Go figure. Thanks a bunch for getting me to that area, I would have never thought to look there.appreciate your helpRegardsBob
