Power Supp[y Upgrade

Featured Replies

I have an HP Pavillion multi media computer. It came with an Nvidea 8600GT card.I decided I would like to upgrade the card to something a little stronger. I looked at a GTS250 and found that I would need to increase my power supply from the current 350w to more like 500w. Is this a fairly easy task? Would the stronger power supply cause problems for anything else? This is new territory for me. I would really like to avoid buying a new pc since I plan to stick with FS9 and am a little tired of chasing the speed. Any advice is appreciated.

figured it out. Thanks for the help.

Hi,do you have to upgrade to 500W because of the new grafic card or do you only want to do it anyway? a GTS 250 doesn´t need a 500W. I had one before I´fe changed to a GTX 260 and I hav only a 420W PSU and it worked so a 450 would fit it perfectly and it would sa bit cheaper.Another thing: Why do you want do get a GTS 250? It won´t be a big performance increase. I would go for a GTX 460 or 470.

Best regards, Steffen

I was concerned about the power supply. I had read on a couple of boards that you needed close to 500w to run the high end cards. I hope you are correct. That would put me in the markert for more card. Thank you for your reply.
