January 30, 201115 yr Hi everyone,I understand this is a sim forum. I don't post much but I've been around here for pretty much everyday for 4 years. With that in mind, I know there are a lot of people here with vast amounts of video card knowledge. Can somebody please tell me what is going on with this?I think its toast but I just wanted to hear some other thoughts. It looks like this in the POST. Its an EVGA 9800GX2 purchased in 2007. I know I should've upgraded by now but I've been happy with the performance in FSX. Is there any way of saving it (putting it in the oven, hehe)? I already tried rolling back drivers. If it cant be fixed I have about $350 USD budget for a new one. Should I get a GTX 570 or wait for the next best thing?Thank you in advance for your help.Edit: I just tried to look at it on an IPad and its hard to tell what is going on. There are blue and red wavy lines stretching horizontally across the screen. Ruins any enjoyment of looking at the beautiful screenies of the NGX. Completely unusable for flying it. January 30, 201115 yr Commercial Member Chuck,Your screenshot looks fine to me - that's actually important. If you're seeing weird stuff on the screen, but it's not there in a screenshot, that means the problem may actually be in the monitor or cable. Screenshots come straight out of the card's frame buffer memory and if it's ok there that means the card is working correctly at least internally. January 30, 201115 yr Author Ryan,I appreciate your fast response! I have a spare monitor and cable so I'll try that. The monitor I have now is a Samsung 932gw (about 2 years old). Windows is reporting it as a card problem. Chuck Biggins
January 30, 201115 yr Commercial Member I'd try fully removing the driver - uninstall it from Control Panel and then use Driver Sweeper http://phyxion.net/Products/Products/Driver-Sweeper to make sure it's fully cleaned out. Then clean install the latest Nvidia driver. If there's still a problem then yeah you may be right about it being the card.If you have to get a new one, I have nothing but good things to say about the 570. January 30, 201115 yr Author Thanks for the tip! I uninstalled it and used drivesweeper. It was a nogo. I'll dig the RGB monitor out of the garage in the morning and try it even though the card itself is reporting problems. I should have a working 7800GT laying around too. I'll put that in and see what happens. I'll be relieved to see that it is the video card and not the monitor. Chuck Biggins
January 30, 201115 yr Commercial Member Yeah I'm guessing it is the card then... Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com
