Need Some Flying Advice

Featured Replies

Hey Guys,I've searched this forum and I've been unable to find what I was looking for so I thought I'd ask. Please forgive me if this has been asked before.I'm a devout user of Radar Contact. Normally the require you to be about 40 miles from the airport at 11000 ft or so at about 250 kts.Previously I flew the 747 and on the fix page, I could put the airport in as a fix to see that 40 mile range ring. I could then put an in trail waypoint just outside that range ring and specify my altitude and speed crossing restrictions. Since I've been flying the MD11, I have been unable to figure how can set up my FMS to be able to do the same thing. I realize because of the difference in FMS abilities between the 747 and MD11, I'll probably have to do something a bit different. Can any of you MD11 gurus give me some advice or point me in the right direction?Kirk Mayers

Have a look at the FIX INFO stuff on FMS 40.8 it does not work the same as the Boeing, but I think it will do the what you are looking for.

Paul Smith.

Hey Kirk this suggestion is more on the RC4 side of things but I when setting up RC4 for a flight I always have the NOTAMS checked for the arrival airport, RC4 will still start your decent but eventually everything is at your discretion, which means you will no longer get that 40nm away from the airport crossing restriction, I find this much better for following STARS and the md11 prof in general.

Thanks. I did study these pages before and did so again. It will only show me where the 40 mile arch may cross my plan but then maybe I'll have to create an along trail waypoint to put the airspeed/altitude restrictions into. It still seems like a bit of a guess but I'll have to try it and see how it works out.

This sounds very intriguing. I never tried it but it sounds like it may be right up my alley for SIDs. I'll have a try and see how this works out too. Thanks for the ideas guys.Kirk Mayers
