Mip map problem with FSX model textures

Featured Replies

HiI was trying a repaint of an aircraft but was unable to sucessfully re-save the textures so that they displayed correctly in FSX. The problem is the mip-mapping. The low resolution maps are being displayed too early, when the orbit camera is still quite close to the aircraft, resulting in an undesirable blurriness. As I orbit around the aircraft I can watch the textures ripple along the surface of the model, replacing HiRes with LoRes maps. I've tried all sorts of settings. Since the format was originally some form of extended bitmap format, I have tried to recreate this with DXTBMP without success. I have tried every extended bitmap alternative to no avail. DXT 1 would be fine if could somehow control the distances when the LoRes map starts to work.Perhaps I'm just missing something simple? Thanks in advance - Jason

Jason,Mip map only the textures and specular files, leave the bumps alone, have you edited your FSX.cfg to allow for 4096x4096?[GRAPHICS]TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=4096Try posting in the Paint Shop forum http://forum.avsim.n...painters-forum/ you will get better results there. From what I recall it might work better if you leave your paint program open while converting .BMP or DDS textures while using DXTBMP. Sounds crazy but that may do the trick.Good luck.
