For All You AI Addicts

If you're anything like me, you may be addicted to constantly installing new AI. When it's something from The Fruit Stand or AI Aardvark, it's a done deal, already optimized for AI and unlikely to cause any significant performance issues. But what about all that other cool stuff that's not really made for AI but which you really want to see taxiing out for take off or standing on the ramp? In the past I've converted lots of aircraft to AI. Strip out the VC textures, get rid of the panel, use DXTBMP to convert textures to DXT3, AirEd to get it recognized as AI so it doesn't show up in your aircraft menu etc. As a result I have huge numbers of unique aircraft populating my virtual world. Problem - even with the tweaking, some of them tend to be resource hogs.FlightSimTools.com just released a payware utility called AI Optimizer. I was a bit skeptical but as it was available using the Flight1 wrapper and you can request a refund if you're not satisfied, I thought I'd give it a go. Well, it's not the holy grail but it really does make a difference. As an old fart with vivid memories of SE Asia in the late 60's, I have a network of military airfields associated with the Vietnam war. LOTS of AI that are single LOD models not really meant for AI and it was starting to get slow. (Like I told you, I'm an addict.) I was able to tweak some things using this tool and although it doesn't turn them into AI masterworks like HTAI, NBAI and other geniuses, it definitely makes a significant FPS impact. Until someone comes along with a tool that can do it all, including turning them into multi LOD models, I recommend you check it out. Now I can have long lines of C-133, C-124, F100, RF101, F102, C-123 etc etc --- without it being a slide show.No - I don't work for them and no - I wasn't bribed to write this. :( If AI is your thing, check it out. We may start to see a lot of freeware classics being re-released as AI in the near future if authors will give the needed permissions

Good for you my friend. If you don't get rid of all those AI aircraft loading up as "flyable" it really increases the sim loading time a lot. Even some experienced AI developers and packages don't always remember to make that change

Yeah, thanks to your topic,it reminds me of doing that. Actually I've just get rid of all the AI and the default aircrafts from the a/c menu and wow it does speed up the loading time :(
