Importing ESRI shp files into FS9/FSX

Featured Replies

Hello,I was wondering if there is a simple method to import a road network (in ESRI .shp format), into FS9/FSX scenery.Although I'm a FS veteran, the last time I was involved with scenery design was back in the days of FS4, so TBH I got a bit confused after doing a search in the forums for this matter. The idea is that I have a shapefile with all the main Greek roads, (4-5 different road types), so I need to know if there is a simple way to keepe these 4-5 road types distinct, and convert them into one or more bgl files that will cover all of Greece in the FS world. Thanks!

If... the .SHP files are in the Geographic/WGS84 format you can load them into SBuilderX directly. Then you could play around to get the results you wanted. FS9 is too long gone from my memory to offer assistance.

I can transform the shp file to WGS84 very easily. I'll try SBuilderX and see what comes out. Thanks!

As indicated, having shapefile available makes creating scenery for FSX a snap with SBX. For FS9, if you have SBX installed you can export in BLN format, which can in turn be imported into SBuilder for FS9. (Or, you may have GIS software to export in BLN. Just take some care as SBuilder can be a little tempermental on the exact format of the BLN files.I've looked at shapefiles that have been created from OSM data. OSM covers a lot of area, but the data quality is all over the map (so to speak).scott s..
