November 14, 200322 yr I have a runway in Beirut that is not allowed for landings because it is too close to the mountains.Yet, the ATC is still directing AI traffic to do VFR landings on it!As a result of the mountains, the AI traffic is refusing to descend, so the ATC keeps repeating "please expedite your descent to 5,100".As a result, the AI traffic are doing kamikaze landings and touch down on the runway extremely hard. The funny thing is because they touch down so hard, they disappear instantly beneath the runway! Is this a bug in AFCAD2 or what? This is really annoying....Regards
November 14, 200322 yr The function to close one or more ends of runways seems to be really messed up in FS9 vs AFCAD, i'll have to agree.I just keep all open mostly and just let traffic to its thing then i usually just ask for another runway then what ATC initially gives me :)Your problem is slightly worse though and I remember OLBA how nasty that mountain is at the end lolHave you closed other runways off for landings/takeoff? Maybe having done that confuses the ATC. What about if you close the runway completely for landing in both ends, or takeoff and landing in both ends and just use single runway.Yes alot of combinations to try out, maybe one of them will work. It seems to be a trial and error thing with these runways im afraid.
November 15, 200322 yr Hi Cargomun,http://users.adelphia.net/~nabilb727/olbachart.gifI have runways 35, 36, and 21 closed for landings.Runways 17, 18, and 03 are all open.I just don't get why the AI traffic is landing on runway 35, a kamikaze approach! Why can't they land on 03 which is nice and open with nothing but the sea in front of it.I spotted in OLBA quite a bit this past summer and saw all the landings on 17 and 03 (18/36 is a very old runway and is hardly used anymore).Regards
November 15, 200322 yr Author Closing runways has little effect in FS2004. ATC can over ride those settings if it wishes to.Matt
November 15, 200322 yr On the PAI forum regarding AFCAD2, it was stated the FSCOF ATC was not paying attention to the runway use properties saved with AFCAD2. Another post suggested that when setting permission properties to be sure that both ends of the runways were set with the same properties for FSCOF.A further discussion there stated it looks like it will be difficult to correct until the SDKs are released.
November 15, 200322 yr Yeah, I'm afraid it looks like we're going to have to wait until the SDKs are released. It takes Microsoft forever to release the SDKs. I wouldn't expect them until next year unfortunately. :(Looks like I'll have to live with kamikaze landings for now....Thanks for all the replies.Regards
