November 16, 200322 yr I really want to purchase Radar Contact and use it in FS9. I just want to know how realistic it is, how much better than default ATC it is and if it is worth the money. I would post in their forum but i figure it would be biased. What does everyone like/dislike about it? Thanks, Brad Zimmer
November 16, 200322 yr i think RC is an excellent add-on... you can easily select alternate runways (dep and landing) and you dont have to keep contacting different controllers all the time, which makes for a more realistic approach. Plus there are tons of authentic atc recordings etc :-) ... be patient with the install
November 16, 200322 yr I agree. I have been using RC3 for several months now and would reccomend it. With the downloadable background ATC available for many countries in Europe + the USA it is very immersive. Not as realistic as VATSIM but no problem with unmanned traffic centre's either. The upgrade for FS9 is available from their site. As are the ATC files adn extra voices.Timhttp://www.spottedantelope.com/bwomack/ima...aam-sim_sig.gif
November 16, 200322 yr Among many things I like about RadarContact is:a) the ability to do a holding pattern and:( the ability to request deviations left and right of course for weather.I used RadarContact exclusively with FS2002 and now bounce back and forth betweed default ATC and RC.You will certainly not regret having RC for FSCOF.Adam
November 16, 200322 yr Hi David,In a word "no". I guess it would depend on your system though. I did have some problems using advdisplay. It seemed to make the textures load very slowly when changing views. But, no, I did not notice any hit to speak of from RC.You can change the priority to high for RC if the voices appear slow. I did this under my old operating system, WinMe, using ProcessViewer but have not had to do this for WinXP. There are directions for doing this however in the RadarContact Forum I believe.BTW, you should get a very "unbiased" view of RC in The RC forum. It really is a very worthwhile program with the exception that it does not interact with FS AI traffic per se. Also, you won't get ground taxi instructions. I think there is a work around though where you can use RC together with FSATC but I never really did that myself.Good Luck and enjoy RC if you do get it.Adam
November 16, 200322 yr Commercial Member and with the new release of fsuipc, pete and i (ok mostly pete) have figured out how to control the ai. i'm about ready to release 3.1, so i can start on 4.0in 4.0, one of the big tickets will be controlling ai, detecting possible enroute conflicts and vectoring you and the ai to avoid each other. i already started work on 4.0, and have the ground ai holding short when you are cleared to land. no more go arounds because the silly ai taxi's onto the runway.jd JD Read my blog
November 16, 200322 yr John, Will the next version of RC make a provision for ground control, ie taxiing instructions? Or is this beyond the scope of the program? Thanks, Adam
November 16, 200322 yr Oh yeah jd, one more question. You say that subsequent versions will be able to control AI. Does this hold true for AI add-ons such as PAI?Thanks again, Adam
November 17, 200322 yr Hi Rob,"In a word, yes! :-)" Ah, yes to the PAI or yes to ground control? OR:-hah yes to both? Thanks Rob.Adam
November 17, 200322 yr Author It doesn't matter to RC if you're using PAI, or Ultimate Traffic, or MyTraffic, or whatever. Once the traffic.bgl file is compiled, they're all the same. I'm using UT and am an RC beta tester. As for ground control, John will have to answer that. At one time I would have assumed that it would be too difficult to implement in RC, but John keeps doing the impossible. :)Sidney Schwartz KPDX
