November 20, 200322 yr Author Hi JR,"Do you mean the rushing wind sound heard in the cockpit?"...... no, I mean the variable wind noise audible outside when you reach altitudes > around 4200ft. It's like you are standing on top of a mountain, or at least a high hill when the wind is bustling around you.At first I thought this was quite a neat sound effect; now I find it quite distracting and would like to be able to disable it when I choose. I am assuming there is a switch somewhere outside the sim but haven't located it yet.Not a big deal, I'm just wondering, that's all.Mike
November 20, 200322 yr My remedy was to find all sound effects concerning wind in the sounds folder, and then reduce their volume by using Windows' own Sound Recorder.....also, as certain 3rd-party aircraft come with own Sound folder, the same may need to be done there too.The sound effect is quite neat, but far too loud in my opinion! If you want to have a chance at hearing other AI aircraft at airports, you have to have that environment control slider all the way up, but then when you are flying that wind noise drowns out your own engines and ATC..... :-roll

November 21, 200322 yr Sure!Goto 'Start', 'programs', 'accessories', and look for 'entertainment' in all the pop-out menu's. There will be a drop-down menu that has several items listed, one of them being Sound Recorder.Having selected ('clicked' on it) Sound Recorder, use the 'file' menu and browse for the sounds folder within your install of FS 2004. Look for all .wav files with 'wind' in the title. As you select each one you can play it back in Sound Recorder. If it's the right sound effect, use the 'effects' button and select 'decrease volume' from the drop-down menu. click on it, and replay the sound. Repeat this procedure until you are happy with the volume level. At this point you go back to 'file' menu, and click on 'save'.....this will save your now quieter .wav sample. Repeat this proceedure for all sound files you wish to adjust. I probably decreased the wind files at least 5 times each, and then used the 'increase' option a couple of times to boost the engine sounds.Hope that helps :-)
November 21, 200322 yr Just to check.. are you using the addon called Active Camera? It adds a sound that you described to all external views. True, it can get annoying after a while. If you want, you can turn it off from the Options -> Active Camera 2004 -> Setup menu.
November 21, 200322 yr Author Jet 1, you are a genius! You hit the nail on the head. Isn't it funny how often we forget what some of these addons provide as extras and make the mistake of blaming the sim. I unchecked the Sound in Options - Active Camera 2004 and bingo :)Thanks again!Mike :-wave
November 21, 200322 yr Author Many thanks! Just goes to show that even although it's well over a year since installation I still don't know everything that lies under the bonnet of XP. Very useful info and doubtless I'll be using it soon.P.S. You will note in my reply to Jet 1 below that the 'problem' is now resolved :)Mike
