570 = about 20% slower *in GPU limited games* than the 580. There's likely almost no difference in FSX at all as it's a CPU-limited app. The only reason I see to get a 580 over a 570 is if you want to run stuff like Crysis 2 or the upcoming Battlefield 3 maxed out at resolutions higher than 1920x1200. Waste of money if all you're doing is FSX, the 570 is basically the same thing for a lot less money. I get 60FPS on the highest Crysis 2 settings at 1920x1200 with the 570...

Yes, is not intelligent to buy the 580 for FSX. I'll buy EVGA or ASUS 570 ...

Guys, the ones I posted were GTX480. Their price is awesome (240€ vs 330€ for a GTX570) The windforce 3 model from Gigabyte has the best cooling system of all 480's and are very quiet too. The only drawback is power consumption, but those 480X are just as powerfull as a GTX570 for 80€ less

Well, if you overclock the 580 or the non SOC GTX480 Windforce 3, the difference is again about the same, but the SOC is supposed to overclock better. I got me a regular W3 (that by the way is now 4€ cheaper there) and overclocked it to 860MHz (the SOC comes at 820MHz, but will probably do 900MHz easy)The Windforce 3 here is dirt cheap, but they have none in stock, you need to contact them and they'll order it for you

I think the 580 shows it's muscle with FSX when you couple it with a Sandy Bridge at or near 5GHz.I also think the 560 is a better choice than the 460 for FSX.And .....you can't make up a video card's limitations with FSX by overclocking it.Ken C

What do you mean by "it shows it's muscle"? Whenever you are CPU limited with your 5GHz SB + GTX560, you will also be with a GTX580.You're right, a GPU overclock won't help overcome the CPU bottleneck in FSX, but neither will an upgrade to a GTX580... well, it's a CPU bottleneck after all

Well, I'm just saying that based on the below FSX bench marks that the 580GTX is both underrated and overrated. The overrated:580GTX I7 860 at 4.2GHz link Vs560Ti Sandy Bridge at 3.3GHzlinkThe underrated:580GTX on a Sandy @ 5.2GHz linkVS560Ti on a Sandy @ 5.2GHz linkKen

Ken, those results are all over the place, not sure why, but I can tell you that I'm currently testing my new GTX480 overclocked @ 860MHz (that should take it very close to a GTX580) and if it wasn't for the fans I wouldn't even know It's not the GTX460 anymore (in FSX, of course, in everything else the 480 is much faster as expected) Actually it's not smoother or anything like that either, but it keeps my room warmer in the winter! :( If you are ever temped to upgrade, don't do it for your FPS (see Ryan's post)
