Intercepting an Airway / FMC

Featured Replies

At my local airport, I hear departure give the following instructions to westbound traffic."Turn right heading 310, join victor 483, climb and maintain 10,000."Is there a way to program the FMC to join an airway when given a heading to intercept it? It would be easy if given an intersection to fly direct to join, but that's not the case here. Any help would be appreciated as I would like to try this in Flight Sim.Thanks!Bill

If you're using a Boeing-type FMC like the Level-D:-Take the first waypoint on V483 down into the scratchpad and, using LSK 1L, put it back in the top position. You should have the option to put a heading in the bottom right position on the CDU, so put 310° in the scratchpad and, using LSK 6R put it in the bottom right position. Then EXECUTE it.It should now command a heading of 310° until you intercept the airway centre-line then turn along V483 to the first waypoint and then continue along it until it comes to a change of airway, if you have the airway waypoints entered.Colin B

If the next active waypoint is on the airway , and you're already in HDG SEL mode , you can do this withoutmaking an FMS entry. The Controller has already given you the intercept heading (310).Just dial in hdg 310° in HDG SEL window , and press LNAV.When you get near the track it will then automatically transition from HDG SEL to LNAV, turnon course and fly the route.
