Anyone Having Any Luck With Megascenery Problems?

Featured Replies

Hello,First of all, Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. I wanted to know if anyone is having any luck with the Megascenery texture loading problem. I did a search on this here and it seems I'm not the only one unhappy about this problem. What I don't understand is that when I first got Megascenery, it worked fine. I used the recommended settings to the letter and I was impressed. However, as time has gone on, the scenery has degraded for some reason and lost it's sharpness. I haven't changed a thing and can't figure out why it has changed. I've never seen scenery lose it's sharpness over time, has anyone else?My system (Pentium 4, 2.4 GHZ, 768MB RAM, 128MB Ultra A250 Ti4600 Video Card) should be more than capable of running this scenery and it did so in the beginning, but now it looks blurred all the time. I have tried everything I've read here and have had no luck. Even if I pause the sim and look at the scenery without moving, it still doesn't seem to load all the way.I've all the posts regarding this problem and just wanted to know if anyone has made any progress with getting the textures to load all the way. I know this much, I won't be in a rush to get the next installment of Megascenery until I get this sorted out first.I've posted a shot of Megascenery when it looked good and I'll post a shot of what it looks like now in a second post. Thanks for any help you can post here.Sincerely,Hans Groenewold

Sorry, here is the first shot when it looked good.Hans

Here's what it looks like now. Sorry the image is small, but the attachment is limited to 125KB.Hans

Your second shot was a .txt file and not a .jpg file. It is easy to do that bccause the default in "Click here to choose your attachments", is .txt The .jpg option is right below it, I think.Redo it and double check to make sure you save it as a .jpg.Regards,DonaldS

DonaldS,Yeah I noticed that after I attached it, here is in .jpg format. ThanksHans

I don't see the difference, but maybe that's just me.Maybe your max. texture size slider is set to below maximum or something?I just bought the package yesterday, I was a little disappointed at first - I expected the textures to be a little sharper (I read that it was looked much better than FU3 - well, apart from the colors, I really don't think so), and it loads for ages - time for more ram, I guess.Anyways, what really bugs me is that the sim quits anytime I fly in San Diego - a clean CTD...-Daniel

I hate to say it, but I think you need a biggerbox, P4 3.06 or bigger. Maybe you're running too much other stuffwith it. It will certainly change over time, if you loadthe PC more & more. Are u regularly defragging? Have u got the bestdrivers for your set up?Peter Sydney Australia

LOL 3.06GHz or bigger? If they just cost a little less, I'm sure everyone would be using one ;)I'm running it on a 1.3GHz Centrino Notebook and get good frames - if it weren't for the stuttering and loading, which is due to too little ram at the moment.-Daniel

Peter,I maintain my PC in good condition. I defragment the drive every two to three weeks or as needed. I always close any running applications with End-it-all and also close my virus scanner. According to my PC, when I run FS2004, I have 96% available resources dedicated to FS2004.The point I'm trying to make is that this is happening under the same conditions. When it was new, no problem, the scenery looked fine. Now, the scenery is blurred. Had I changed something, I could understand this happening. I don't think I should have to get a new PC to run a $39. scenery purchase.I read some post about a guy who recommended as he did and spend about 100 hours tweaking it to get it right. Maybe I'm wrong, but I can't see having to go through all that especially when it ran fine in the beginning.I guess this is one of the reasons my interest in flight simming is waning after 8 years. It seems to be the only hobby where we, or me anyways, spend more time "tweaking" than we do enjoying a nice flight. It is also probably the only hobby that costs about $50. to get into. Then we'll consider spending another thousand dollars trying to get it to run right with another PC or with a top of the line video card. The majority of the posts you read here are from people resolving some problem from poor performance.I use other "games" that require a good PC and they run without a hiccup. I install them and enjoy them. I also realize that FS2004 requires a lot more processing power. Then again, a lot of the posts here are from people with top of the line PC's. Doesn't make much sense, does it?Sincerely,Hans Groenewold

I agree to that ... I enjoyed flight simming much more in the past, when this whole technology thing was less complex ... I guess game designers where more creative those days to make the games realistic, while today everything is whipped into the product to just make it look good. But maybe it's just the curse of it being "moddable"...-Daniel

Have you tried running Mega Scenery with unlimited framerates as recommended by many on here (and by the VFR Photographic scenery forum)?Cured all my serious "blurries" and keeps my scenery sharp 99% of the time.

Yes, I have tried various frame rates and went back to unlimited frame rates as the manufacturer recommends. Believe me, I've tried virtually every possible combination. Then I got so far off course, I went back to EXACTLY what the manufacturer recommended and have had no luck. Also, their web site wasn't much help, which is where I posted originally. What puzzles me is why it changed from when I first got it. I have not added anything to FS2004 since Megascenery and nothing else to my PC except a couple of games, which don't interfere with FS2004. I could understand it if I didn't close my running programs, virus scanner, or only had a small amount of RAM or a smaller PC. Oh well, I guess it'll remain a mystery for now.BTW, I'm not sure what "moddable" means.Take care,Hans Groenewold
