MCE & MyTraffic X version 5.3 pro

Featured Replies

Good Morning,I have raised this issue in both the MCE support and the MyTraffic support forums and thought I would ask you folks here just in case one of you has run into this situation and resolved it.I have been using Multi Crew Experience for a couple of weeks now and I enjoy it very much. Yesterday I purchased and installed MyTraffic X version 5.3 pro and it populates those facilities I operate out of wonderfully well. Another great program. My problem is I now can not communicate with the outside ATC facilities (departure, ground, tower, approach, etc.) although I still can communicate with my "co-pilot" quite well. The FS++ team is very good at customer support. They got back to me almost immediately and said that they were not aware of any incompatibility issues between the two programs but they would check with some folks to see if they couldn't uncover the issue. The developer of the MyTraffic program, Burkhard, is also very responsive to support issues and has offered 3 suggestions. They are:1. It is possible the ATC stack gets overloaded when the traffic sliders are set up high. If so, then reduce them and see if the communication problem is resolved. My traffic slider is set at 33% at the moment.2. MyTraffic X does introduce several new frequencies at a number of the FSX airports and maybe this has caused an inconsistancy issue. Burkhard advised me where to find the appropriate files and to temporarily remove them to see if this helped. I am suspect that this is actually the problem because I first noticed this problem while parked at general aviation at the Columbia Metro facility (South Carolina) and an AI Cessna right next to me requested and received clearance to taxi. I had my comm 1 tuned to Columbia ground and heard both him and the ground controller clearly.3. MyTraffic X apparently replaces the original FSX sound file with something called EDVP SDK. Burkhard suggested that, if the above did resolve the issue then it might be necessary to remove the new sound file and replace it with the original FSX sound file. I am worried about this fix for two reasons, first - I am not knowledgeable enough to successfully perform that function, second - I wonder if doing so would, in some fashion, disable the MyTraffic X program, Burkhard did not say it would but he did not specifically say it wouldn't either.I will certainly try both one and two above and, if someone here can deliver some instructions that I can follow, I might even try to perform three also. Thanks for wading through all of this. Maybe someone here has been confronted with the same issue and has successfully resolved it. I really appreciate everyone's time!Respectfully,John

"3. MyTraffic X apparently replaces the original FSX sound file with something called EDVP SDK. Burkhard suggested that, if the above did resolve the issue then it might be necessary to remove the new sound file and replace it with the original FSX sound file."The FSX sound file, found in the Sound/ATC folder is USEnglishBig.gvp and not edvp sdk as you stated (There is an evewavecache.bin file inside the sound folder but that's not the main sound file.) If it was modified and you did not back it up before you had it modified (you have to request the sound file be updated by MyTrafficX. It's not updated automatically as many people do not like the modifications), then you'll have to run a FSX repair by placing your FSX DVD into the DVD drive and, when it loads, select the Repair option. Unfortunately, you'll have to repair Acceleration (if it's installed) or SP1 and SP2 if Acceleration is not installed. It will give you a new FSX.cfg too and you should back up the FSX.cfg before you do a repair if you want to use your current FSX.cfg. It doesn't sound like you had the ATC sound replaced. Repairing FSX will disable MyTrafficX in that the line required in the FSX.cfg will not be there with a new fsx.cfg. But, if you backed up the fsx.cfg before a repair, you can place the backup back into the fsx.cfg folder and you'll have all your settings back. I have my ATC set around 50%. The higher you place this slider, the higher volume of traffic which could slow down your system as it is reading all the flight plans and putting aircraft there all over the world. If will definitely slow down your startup of FSX considerably in any case as it has to load all the flight plans for all of the AI aircraft. I am not familiar with the MultiCrew Experience program so really can't comment on it. You should go to the MCE support forum (if they have one) and see if it's compatible with MyTrafficX. It should work whether it is using the default ATC sound file or the modified MyTrafficX sound file as both files have the exact same name. Best regards,Jim

Thanks for the info Jim. I really appreciate the instructions concerning the restoration of the original sound file. I will surely back up my FSX.cfg file before I try any of the repair procedures. I don't recall MyTraffic X asking for my permission to replace the original sound file although I could very well have missed that during the installation procedure. The MCE support team assures me that MCE is fully compatible with the EDVP SDK protocol and so that should not be a problem. They have given me a test to run which involves asking my "co-pilot" to read the ATC options when an ATC window appears. Apparently if the co-pilot can read those options back to you then the MCE program is successfully interpreting what is appearing on the ATC screen and the problem is actually something else.I understand that the original sound file is named "USEnglishBig.gvp" and not EDVP SDK as I originally stated. Burkhard, the developer of MyTraffic X told me about a program called Edit Voicepack and directed me to the appropriate website. I have downloaded a copy together with the instructions found on their Wikipage. Apparently this program allows one to edit the FSX sound file that contains the ATC communication. It also provides a set of instructions to help you restore the FSX voicepack.should that become necessary. Finally, I wondered why FSX was taking so long to initialize each time I double-clicked on it's shortcut on my desktop. Your explanation has helped me to better understand what is going on.Thanks again!John

"I don't recall MyTraffic X asking for my permission to replace the original sound file although I could very well have missed that during the installation procedure."I think it's in the manual. Like I said, you have to go onto the website via the Communicator and look in downloads and you will see the opportunity to update the sound file. So, if you didn't do that, then you still have the default traffic file. Burkhard is right about the program called Edit Voicepack. Make sure you download Edit Voicepack X (for FSX). Here's a video on how the program works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOshgb5TUf0.Best regards,Jim

I own both products and have modified the sound file and I do not have any issues with ATC. Have you read the MCE manual to understand how MCE interacts with ATC? and have you read the MCE manual to understand the correct phrasing that you must speak in order to interact with ATC?Regards,Bob

Thanks Jim,I have checked with the FS++ team and they assure me that MCE is fully compatible with the modified sound file if it now exists in my system. I really appreciate your information and the video you provided. Its folks like you who are willing to share that make this forum so valuable for all of us.And Bob - thank you also. Yes, I have spent some considerable time making sure I understand the phrases necessary to communicate with the ATC. Here is a brief synopsis of what has transpired:I first installed and used MCE with much success for a period of 2 weeks. When I first downloaded the program I printed out all of the manuals and the FS++ team kindly provided me with an extensive manual that had been inadvertantly left out of my download package. This manual was quite large and contained the precise syntax and phrasing rules necessary to communicate with "native" ATC. Using this material I put together several pages of phrases that worked quite well when communicating with ATC on VFR flights. After successfully using MCE for the past two weeks, I purchased and installed MyTraffic X 5.3. After the installation I found I was not able to communicate with the ATC facilities even using the same phrases that I had prepared and used for the past two weeks. I can communicate quite nicely with my "co-pilot". He performs all of the functions he used to, even reading out the ATC options that appear in the open ATC window (something the FS++ team has assured me is a good indication that the entire program should perform for me but it does not). I am continuing to work with the FS++ team, who are simply wonderful by the way, to find out what happened and correct it.Once I get this figured out with their help, I will post the solution to my problem in case others happen to run into the same situation. Thanks again Guys for the suggestions and the support!John
