May 23, 201115 yr I'd like to be able to see more instruments (other than only changing the eyepoint backwards) w/o reducing the magnifcation of the view outside the cockpit. If I hit "minus" while in 3D cockpit mode, everything gets smaller. I'd like only the cockpit itself to be viewed at less than 100% while keeping the outside world set at 100%.

The 3D cockpit views in FSX just aren't realistic. Gabe Keewaydin
May 23, 201115 yr Probably why trackIR is so popular. Also nice to have a big monitor and good eye sight helps
May 23, 201115 yr Author Probably why trackIR is so popular. Also nice to have a big monitor and good eye sight helpsah. I used Track IR or something similar while simming with my "kid" who also happens to be a Navy pilot too. LOL! I thought it was pretty cool (once it was set up correctly). I may just invest in one myself.
May 23, 201115 yr This is with Wide View Aspect enabled in FSX cfg. and .70 zoom on a 24" monitor. No issues for me here. Just use String or Controll (I have a German keyboard so I'm not sure) + Enter to zoom out, and + Backspace to zoom in. You can also use Shift + Enter and Shift + Backspace to set your viewpoint up or down. Finally Controll+Space will reset everything to default.Hope this helps

What I'd also like to do though, is decrease zoom level of ONLY the cockpit, leaving the outside view at 100%.This is with Wide View Aspect enabled in FSX cfg. and .70 zoom on a 24" monitor. No issues for me here.I'm not familiar with "wide view aspect". Like I said I'm new to FSX and don't recall that parameter from when I used to tweak FS9. I'll google that and if i've got more questions, I'll be back! :)

I switched the cfg file back and forth between FALSE and TRUE and ran FS in both 2D and 3D CP modes. There is a huge difference in the view of the 3D, and the 2D stays the same. Very cool on the 3D!
May 23, 201115 yr yes you can actually move your seat back without changing world. a bit different to the seat zoom fore and aft.open aircraft.cfg file of the plane.look for [views] section e.g.[Views]eyepoint= -3.95, -0.85, 1.9 //(feet) longitudinal, lateral, vertical distance from reference datumby changing the -3.95 to -4.10 you will move seat back without any other effect outside. Decrease in 0.10 increments and check until you find suitable option. Depending on the model you normally have quite a distance to go before you run into problem with seat starting to block view.same way you can adjust seat left and right and up an down by changing the appropriate numberin effect you change outside world distance also but that is 20cm related to 4km (it is negligent to outside world view)and 20 cm related to cockpit... (Huge difference) : just for those that will say this do not adjust outside perseption. yes it does but your eye will not see the difference relating to the outside world
