June 1, 201115 yr Hello all,I have been following a thread on 'PMDG General' section of this forum regarding iMacs, unfortunately that discussion seems to have run cold.So I thought I'd ask the question on a more relevant section.Has anyone one had any experience running FSX (via Bootcamp) on the 2011 Sandy Bridge iMacs? And if so, how does FSX perform? Also if anyone has a similar spec'd PC and/or has a good idea how the new iMac may perform I'd appreciate your views? I am looking to buy a 27" i7 @ 3.4GHz (no over-clocking on a Mac).I am not looking for a debate on the pros and cons of buying a Mac and not a PC, my profession dictates that I use a Mac. So I'd appreciate views and experiences of just the above questions only.Cheers!Robin iMac 24" 2.33GHz Core Duo. Win XP
June 2, 201115 yr Author No takers?I'll try this:Has anyone a PC with the following (or very similar) specs, and if so what sort of performance are you getting (FPS) and what are you FSX settings (Autogen etc..):i7@ 3.4GHz (no over-clock)AMD Radeon HD 69704GB 1333MHz RamWin 7 64FSX SP2This spec is very close to the iMac I am considering buying and your experiences would give me a good indication.Any response would be appreciated.R iMac 24" 2.33GHz Core Duo. June 3, 201115 yr Cheers Alfredo.A considerable improvement over my current setup, and with some complex addons. Can I assume you had the sliders over to the right on your graphic settings?RobinI used to have pictures of my settings, but I don't know why they don't come up anymore. I can't remember specifically what my settings where (I think you can tell by looking at my fsx.cfg that I posted), but I had advanced animations ticked, unlimited fps (and used fps limiter), I had both types of autogen at max, I used water 2.0 at max (an fps drainer), I had 100% airline and ga traffic (using world of ai packages) I had real world clouds with density to 100%. Also I was either using the Max fsx anti aliasing and filtering or I was using 8xsq and other mores frame eating settings through the nvidia driver inspector (you can find more info on this on the pmdg general forums ). The one thing I had at the minimum was level of detail radius. But with the above settings, the frames I got were good considering the plane I was in, and the fact that at fsdreamteam's kfll, when you are on runway I was on, the frames tend to drop a lot as is explained in the link I wrote earlier. Now, with my pc overclocked, I have tried running level of radius at max and mesh complexity also, and frames don't drop too much from when these settings are low. Also, I was running cars, and boats, etc. At I think 15% with airport vehicle traffic at medium. You can find the settings I might have forgotten in the post where I post my fsx.cfg (just to let you know, I had it tweaked with bojote's auto tweaking tool http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html). June 4, 201115 yr Author That's reassuring. Looks like I'll have considerable improvement with my FSX experience on the new iMac. On my current setup I can only run at 1024x768, no anti aliasing, most sliders to the left, the lowest water setting (the sea looks like mud!) and very little traffic. In fact most days it looks like I am flying over Lego land! Thanks again for sharing your experiences. I'll be ordering my new iMac very soon. iMac 24" 2.33GHz Core Duo. Win XP
