Recently I have been getting really bad performance with FRAPS and FSX. To be specific normally I get at least a steady 18-20 fps when recording. But now I get spikes where it will drop to 0-4 fps when recording. When its not recording everything is fine. Anyone know how to fix this or identify the problem.

I have messed around a bit with fraps making some videos and even bought the full version of it. With fraps a few things can help. Check and see what cores or core your fraps is running on. I use the Affinity Mask of 14 on my i7 which frees up the 1st core which is where I then set fraps to run on. Even more important than that is that you will get the best performance by having your fraps video files saved to a hard drive not being used by FSX. On my set up I have 3 drives. 1 is for the OS and family stuff/pictures/documents/ect. The second drive is my FSX drive and FSX ONLY. My 3rd drive is my drive where my backups/disk images are saved to. I also use that drive to save the FRAPS videos. So... I run FRAPS on drive C, run FSX on drive D, and the FRAPS vids are saved on drive F.Hope that helps you.Jim

Thanks for the suggestion. I also have been getting really horrible performance w/ Fraps since upgrading to a new version.I will try saving the videos to another drive and see what happens.Regards,

I use FSRecorder and the play back is great. The problem is when you start Fraps that an FPS hit occurs.

FS Recorder doesnt actually record in a format that can be played outside FSX. Most people making videos do use FS Recorder to record the flight to be played back in FSX and then FRAPS is used to make the file that can then be edited and such to make a video for YouTube or SimTube.Jim

Looks like it is time for me to update my FS Recorder... I am still on an older version that didn't have that.

well then I stand corrected! Thanks for the heads up on the newer version, I too will give it a shot. The sound not being recorded is not really an issue as most of the people making FS vids add their own in anyways. Thanks!..... dear? :(

your are welcome my dear friend of course!!It is a beta version but I've not seen any bug .I recorded some FSX videos, burnt a DVD and watched it on my TV set. To tell the truth, my wife did not enjoy it as much as I did...
