October 3, 200223 yr Hi guys,I took a break from flight-simming last week and decided to re-discover my PlayStation 2 in preparation for the upcoming NHL2003... all FS fans are also hockey fans - most of them just don't know it yet! Anyway, during that time, I picked up a copy of Playstation magazine and was pleasantly surprised to find that they included an archive of every game that had ever been reviewed! After "neglecting" my PS2 for many months, I was able to catch up on the "best" titles available for that system by simply browsing through a few pages.I think Avsim should adopt a similar system.... Every title that Avsim reviews (along with its rating) should be presented from a link off the title page. If a user wants to know more about a particular product, they can click on it to receive the in-depth review. The products could also be categorized as Payware, Freeware, Shareware, etc. Since Bear is changing over to a weekly format, an archive of his preferred picks could also be included.I firmly believe that most flightsim users (those who don't check the front page or the forums every 2-3 days) are missing out on a bunch of quality add-on products. By presenting these products in a simple listing (along with the standardized review system already in place), more users will be inclined to buy or download them and enhance their simming experience. What do ya'll think?Regards,Marc
October 3, 200223 yr As an aside, before anyone tries to "blast" me :-), I'm well aware that there is already a Reviews section here on Avsim. My point is that (in its present format) it isn't very useful for the average viewer.M.D.
October 20, 200223 yr Mark, thanks for your thoughtful note. Actually, I've been thinking along the same lines. A single line index in alphabetic sequence, with the review rating and link would be helpful, I'm sure. The administrative burden this would impose is obvious, but we'll definitely think it over.
October 20, 200223 yr but putting it on the frontpage would be a bit too much I think. This is not flightsimreviews.com after all :-lol If you know XML and XSL and can use that on the server you could make something dynamic. Just add an entry to the XML file for each new review and generate the HTML on the fly.
October 23, 200223 yr Well, Avsim now has a Review Archive. See the Review Library Index link on our front page (left hand column) or bookmark Review IndexHope you like it! And please let us know what you think.
