July 2, 201114 yr Some years ago in FS9 I made two around the world flights, one in the Flight One Cessna 421, and another in the FDS Piper Cheyenne 400. Motivated by another post by "MasterJerico85", called "A Fun Flying Challange" I was motivated to take another crack at it. I thought someone might be interested in this, or a similar undertaking from your home airport or whereever. For what it is worth, the scenario was as follows:1. Wanted to fly at a lower altitude and peek at the scenery where possible.2. Bird of a feather choice: Carenado Bonanza F33A (Yea, I know a twin would have been a better choice, but my DF Baron 58 RXP was only in FS9. Now that I think of it, the Eaglesoft Twin Comanche 1.5 might have been a better choice. I may have to research that a bit, particularly range.) 3. Altitude: 7,000 to 8,000 where possible. Alps, Rocky Mts. and weather moved this to 11,000 at times plus a bit of navigation around some peeks.4. Leg Range: <800 NM. This takes a lot of searching across the Far East and some other areas which required slight back tracking at times.5. Assumption: Permission for a North American was granted through potential hostile territories. For what it might be worth to anyone, my spreadsheet resulted in the following:Leg: Route Miles: ETR ATR Origin Destination:1 KLWB-KBOS 537 3.4 4 Greenrier Valley Airport, Lewisburg, WV Logan Intl. If you are anywhere near as ignorant as I am, you will learn a lot and probably find this very interesting along with raising your geography knowledge a bit. Not just the airport, but doing a minimum of research on the location gave me pleasure. In fact, it was difficult not to forget what the goal was here and get carried away with the distraction (Know where the largest land area airport in the world is?). If this could have been real world, for sure it would motivate one to want to stay a few days at every destination and see the sights.Happy flying:RTHEdit: Sorry that the data is a bit scrambled. It was copied to Word from Excel and then copied into my post. The columns then ran together which were previously separated and easy to read. The columns are Legs, Route, Miles, ETR (Estimated time on route), ATR (Actual), Origin Airport, and Destination Airport. Hope you can figure it out.
July 2, 201114 yr Cheap armchair tourism is what you do! I also fly with Google and Wikipedia...Your flight legs in column format (and more) here.Cheers,- jahman.
July 3, 201114 yr Author WOW!Thanks ever so much for the reply Jahman. I am always astounded by my ignorance. I don't know how I overlooked the "Great Circle Mapper", but what a wonderful tool. I immediately saved that link to my favorites. I hope others also unaware of this tool see your reply. Such discoveries always make me wonder what else of which I am unaware.Respectfully:RTH

July 3, 201114 yr Author No, I am not unaware. Of course if one were able to fly exclusively the equator, continents would also be missed but surely it would qualify as an around the world flight. I may try your suggestion, but I am afraid the choice of the bird of a feather will have to be a much more capable aircraft than a Bonanza. Frankly, I was surprised that I could find a route that did not exceed the Bonanza's spec. range capability. Many years ago, I had an aquaintance that made an around the world flight in a V-Tail real world, but he had to jump through a few hoops with the FAA including added fuel tanks. This old memory now does not remember what his routing was. Thanks for the reply. Respectfully:RTH You are also unaware that you missed 4 continents in your "Around the World" tour :(

We all benefit from each other as it's impossible to keep track of all the wonderful free nav sources available on the web these days.BTW, crossing the Behring straight might be easier if you fly over the Aleutians.Me at some point am going to replicate Amelia Earhart's flight in some similar aircraft...Cheers,- jahman.
July 5, 201114 yr Author You are 100% right. It is not just Nav. offerings, but everything else as well. I just started checking my addon's for updates. For example, there were two patches for Ultimate Terrain USA that I have overlooked. Unfortunately, neither corrected my loss of waves in the Continental USA. There are a number of good posts regarding Amelia's Around the World Flight. For what it might be worth, take a peek at my post, "What A Challenge? Amelia!" in "The FS 2004 (FS9) Forum" by "rhodges" dated "Nov. 28, 2010". In the event that you implement Active Sky, you may find the affect best I remember in the Pakistan area interesting. Barometric Pressure drops so low that you cannot keep your bird in the air.Happy flying:RTH Hey, you're welcome! July 6, 201114 yr Author Hello Jahman:Forgive me for asking, but I always wonder when I have a dialoge such as ours where the party I am communicating with lives. If you don't mind, tell me a little bit about where you are and about yourself.Respectfully:RTH I'll take a look. Thanks!Cheers,- jahman.
