A Sidegrade

Featured Replies

Yesterday for my birthday I got off the Intel track for the first time in years and went from an E8400 to a 1090T. I guess it's not really a sidegrade since a Phenom II X6 is a fair bit more powerful than a Core 2 Duo.While everything is still fresh and new I'd like to run FSXMark11, I'll do it before and after overclocking. FSX is not installed right now but I'm assuming it should be a completely fresh install, don't follow NickN's guide or do anything, yes?

Yah there should be instructions in the 3dmark ll thread.

Download the benchmark from the link in my signature. Once you unzip it, you will find a PDF guide that explains everything in great detail. My best advice is to cross out each step you complete to make sure you don't miss anything. It's not hard to follow, though. Shouldn't take you more than 30 minutes to an hour.

Ok I went through the instructions and ran it a few times. The first time was bare install with all the FSXMark11 settings, no OC. Second time was with OC. Third time was after tuning FSX and adjusting the sliders to what I usually fly at. By the third time I was really impressed with the performance!1. Fresh installFrames Time (ms) Min Max Avg4995 300000 10 28 16.62. OverclockedFrames Time (ms) Min Max Avg5892 300000 12 34 19.643. Tuned and tweakedFrames Time (ms) Min Max Avg13315 300000 22 60 44.383I know that the last test is worthless for the purpose of FSXMark but seeing as my E8400 only pulled about 3000 frames and 13fps on average with similar settings, this is fine by me!Anyways just some thoughts on how the Phenom II X6 stands up to FSX... my motherboard is Bulldozer capable so when that comes out I may see if it looks good for FSX...

Did you ever run FSMark11 on your C2D simmer9304? just curious.

Yeah, I ran it when FSXMark11 first showed up. I even posted the results here but I can't find where. It was either in the FSXMark11 thread or in the Sandy Bridge thread. It wasn't a 100% accurate test either since I ran it on an install that was not new with addons, tweaking, tuning, etc. I don't remember the exact numbers but it scored a little over 3000 frames and averaged 13fps I'm fairly certain
