New Saitek BIP and Instrument Panel Drivers

Featured Replies

Hi all,Saitek posted earlier today on Facebook, that they have released a new driver for the BIP panel, and a new driver for the Instrument Panel screens. I can't comment on the FIP drivers, as I don't have one of those, but the new BIP driver has fixed the parking brake light issue. The do claim better stability as well. The drivers can be found at:http://www.saitek.com/uk/down/drivers.phpI posted on their forum about my initial quick testing of the new driver, but since their forums are closed to new registrations, and can't be viewed by people who aren't registered, I'm going to copy and paste my initial impressions below.(Originally posted by me on the Saitek forums)

Ok, so I installed the new driver today, and... the parking brake light works!! So that's the good. For the not-so-good. After uninstalling the old version and installing the new version, the proflightplugin kept crashing on launch. An uninstall and reinstall of the new driver fixed that issue. When running with TrackIR 5 launched from its icon instead of through the batch file, I still experienced the screen freeze-ups, though there seemed to be a longer period of time between them, they are still there. I'll be testing again later, launching TrackIR with my batch file (which lowers its priority), to see if that smooths things back out for me.The Landing Lights light comes on when I hit the appropriate switch on my Switch Panel, but it does not go off when I press the switch to the 'off' position. Instead, I have to turn it back on again, which then triggers the light to go off, and it remains off when I press it back into the 'off' position. So it's easy to work around, but shouldn't happen. Note that the landing lights switch position in the virtual cockpit (and therefore the actual landing lights) still work correctly with the switch on the switch panel, it's just the indicator on the BIP that doesn't properly 'un-light' when I turn the landing lights off. Important to note that I was not using the Landing Lights light prior to today, so I can't be sure if that was or wasn't an existing issue. Also of note is that my Switch, Multi and Radio panels are all being run from a secondary machine on the network. So overall, I'm very happy that the Parking Brake light finally works, but with TrackIR, the screen freezes still happen (at least when TrackIR is not running at a lower priority). My biggest hope now, is that Saitek can work with Natural Point (the TrackIR people) to figure out what the issue is, and get it resolved, regardless of who's driver is at fault, and am curious if anyone else has experienced the Landing Lights light issue. Again, I'll be testing again later on, to see if my flights are smooth with TrackIR launched through my batch file, like they were when I was still using the old BIP driver.Good luck everyone, and looking forward to hearing how this driver works for everyone else! -George

After a little more testing, my flight was smooth using the batch file to start TrackIR at below normal priority, and the landing lights light worked for the duration of the flight, including many on-off cycles for testing. So I'm guessing that it not turning off earlier was a fluke.-George

Ah, thanks mentioning the TrackIR problem. Saitek chose to neglect it over 2 weeks of emails to them, suggesting silly things like "it must be your windows".Found a solution myself then: plug in TrackIR after the BIP driver has loaded. That works 100% on my system.

There's a couple of people on the Saitek forums that are also having the problem using the BIP and TrackIR at the same time. I wasn't experiencing it myself, but after taking a peek in the batch file that I use to start TrackIR and a couple of other programs I have running during my FSX sessions, I realized that I had set the priority to below normal when launching TrackIR. That seems to keep things smooth on my system, but doesn't seem to have helped with other folks unfortunately.-George
