Anyone elses here into RC planes?

Featured Replies

I just dropped some $ on a RC plane and was wondering if anyone else in these forums fly? Here's what I'm getting:EFL2575-450.jpg?rand=48529383http://www.e-fliterc.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=EFL2575Already have my transmitter and reciever so all I need now is a few batteries, brushless ESC, brushless outrunner motor, prop, servos, retracts, etc... Basically I still need a lot to get her in the air but plan to have everything in the next month. This will be my first plane in over 15yrs and my first electric. I'm more excited about this than I am the NGX but just barely!Product Specifications Wingspan: 48.0 in (1220mm) Overall Length: 41.9 in (1065mm) Wing Area: 410 sq in (26.4 sq dm) Flying Weight: 4.20–4.50 lb (1.9–2.0 kg) Motor Size: Power 15 Radio: 6+ channels Servos: 7 micro servos Prop Size: APC 11x8E electric prop Spinner Size: 1.75 in Hardware Included: Yes Speed Control : 40-amp Recommended Battery: 3S 3200mAh Li-Po Flaps: Yes Retracts: Optional Approx. I am a very active RC pilot. I currently have 4 planes and fly about every 2 weeks at my RC club. I do actually have the plane you are getting it it is a VERY nice plane! The only advice I have for flying it is make sure to use full flaps for landing and keep the speed low. This plane flies pretty quick and it is easy to come in too hot and overshoot the runway. Is this your first plane, or do you have a few already?

This will be my first electric and first plane in 15yrs since I used to fly RC. I used to fly glow powered planes and do not currently have any at all.I have the Phoenix RC Simulator 3.0 hooked up through my laptop to my 46" HiDef 1080 TV and get stick time that way, much cheaper than wrecking real planes.. What a fantastic program, I can't recommend it enough.Regarding landings, I'm sure you want to maintain a healthy approach speed but within the limits for landing to reduce the possibility of stalling. Last thing I want to do is drop a wing on approach. Luckily, the place where I'll be flying with the local RC Club has a verry long runway (huge asphalt police and fire training facility). I'll take lots of pictures and video next time I'm out there. Thanks for the tips.

Yeah, very true, but this plane doesn't stall do easily. On final approach I'm already at idle power to get the speed low. Definitely go fast if anything the first few approaches to get the hang of it. I remember my first 2 approaches with this plane went missed because I was too fast. The club I fly at has 2 runways: the primary one is 50ft wide and 640ft long and the secondary runway is 50ft wide and about 500ft long. We see 10ft long jet turbine planes here almost every weekend. Those are very cool!

That would be a great site to see, so far I haven't seen any turbines in person. What power setup do you use? I was thinking of at least 400+ W with a 3300 30C 3S pack and 60A ESC If you don't mind, do you have prop/motor/ESC recommendations? I'm finding it difficult to decide on servos too. I have Futaba T6EX Tx and Rx 2.4Ghz FASST. Thanks for posting.

RC Helicopters for me!My last RC plane took a dump over a playing field.... However I can use my RC Choppers in my BackYard, turbine is louder but the sound is nice because when it changes throttle percentages my autistic brother starts smiling, like a chain reaction.

Yeah we have a guy who flies an A-10 Warthog model - that plane is worth about $30,000.Anyways, I chose to use all E-Flite electronics, except for the servos. I couldn't be happier with E-Flite electronics, not a single one has failed in me and I've been consistently flying for nearly 2 years. In the Bonanza, I use:Motor: E-Flite Power 15ESC: E-Flite 40-Amp Pro Brushless ESCBattery: E-Flite 3200mah 3S 11.1V Li-Po, though a Hyperion equivalent (Here) may be cheaper and is equally as reliableProp: 11 x 8E <--Always make sure it has the E for electric. Electric props are a bit different.Servos: HS-81 (Here), these are plastic geared and have heard they can strip, through I have yet to strip one in 1.5 years of flying this plane. If you can spend an extra $8 or so a servo, I'd go for the HS-82MG. Essentially the same servo, just with metal gears. (Here)This power setup is relatively inexpensive and provides plenty of power; this plane easily performs any aerobatics. It also cruises at a nice speed with about half throttle. I have put some telemetry systems in there for testing that sends back flight data to a computer. With half throttle in normal flight i believe it was flying at about 30mph, pretty fast, yet easily controllable.I hope you enjoy your new plane, and let me know if you need anymore help!
