I Need Some Opinions

Featured Replies

That I'm posting in this forum can only mean one thing... An upgrade  I've been thinking about spending a little bit of this extra summer cash (saved school commute gas money) on a system "upgrade". I'm only in the Newegg browsing stages of the upgrade, but I'll be going up to a socket 1155 Z68 and a 2600K if I pull the trigger. Now the question; Should I save for another week and get a higher end MB, or go ahead and purchase the "mid-range" one I've been eye balling?http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131729I've never been one to splurge on the motherboard, but I'm wondering if I'll use all of the cool features of say a $250-$300 one. This may sound like a ridiculous question but what the heck.

Make a lost of those "cool features" and see how they stack-up against another $100 hamburger :Big Grin:In practice *I suspect* MBs with less features are sold in larger numbers, thus comanding a higher number of PCB and BIOS revisions to iron-out all the bugs.Cheers,- jahman.

If I was upgrading to SB today, I would get an I5 2500K and a ASUS P8Z68-V PRObut the plain P8Z68 is fine for a single GPU setup if you know you'll never need SLI

Thanks guys. Interesting comment there, jahman! I was actually wondering about quality of the parts as well. I doubt there's much difference there, though. And I'm currently building that list now. It's not weighing in the direction of more $$$!The -V Pro is actually on my temporary wish list, Dario. But I'll never use SLI, ever. Nor the two extra 6GB Satas. Which goes back to the list jahman mentioned...I'm starting to look at it this way. Get the basic Asus Z68 and 2500K. If LGA2011 offers big gains, I'll be more likely to upgrade having not lost as much.

Haha. Thanks again fella's. I swear I go through this same thought process with every upgrade.
