Loading Terrain

Featured Replies

Hi,If I try to go to KORD, KCGX, etc., in the Chicago area FS9 crashes when loading the terrain files. I've tried turning off all add-on sceneries but to no avail. I keep a back up of FS9 on an external drive and have reloaded the scenery and texture files from a previous date when I had no problems. It still crashes. Any other areas in the USA or World that I can think of load fine, even with add on sceneries. Have tried to let FS9 rebuild its cfg file, but nothing seems to work. Does anybody know of any files that would affect this area, being as I have a complete copy of FS9 on external drive I can copy over to FS9 on hard drive? Maybe I've missed something. I've been with FS9 since it's begining and would say that I'm very knowlegable of it's files and folders and how it works, but this one's got me stumped. Thanks, Paul

Hi all,Update to my own problem: I fixed the loading problem, it was that I had three mesh bgl's located in the Scenery/World/Scenery folder. As soon as I removed them the Chicago area now loads with no problems. Paul

Paul, it's strange as this location is a proper location for mesh bgl's. I've got around 200 of such files there, many installed automatically by FSGenesis. others added by me. And it does not cause any crash. So looks like at least one of these meshes was corrupt or in conflict with another Chicago area bgl file.

Hi Rafal, I thought maybe it has something to do with Windows 7. I'm new to it, having used XP for many years. There have been a couple of bgl files in the past with Windows 7 where I have had to go into the properties section of the file and give permission for windows to use the file. Most likely I should not have installed FS9 in the Program Files (x86), but rather installed it outside of (x86). Must say though that other than a couple of glitches, that I worked out, it works great under (x86). Paul

Oh, I see. You may be right.I'm on Windows XP and have (yet!) no idea about WIn 7. :blush:You learn something new every day. Anyway, great you had it sorted more or less.Have some great weekend flying!
